Q: What typically fits inside this Chanel East West Flap Bag?
A: With approximate measurements of 25 x 13 x 4.5 cm, this bag is best suited to compact daily or evening essentials such as a phone, card holder or slim wallet, keys, lipstick, and other small items. Its slim East West shape is elegant and practical, but it is not designed for bulkier belongings. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for the most accurate dimensions.
Q: Is this bag better for daywear or evening use?
A: The Chanel East West Flap is often loved for its sleek, elongated silhouette, which makes it especially versatile for lunches, dinners, events, and light day use. Many collectors see it as a refined day-to-evening style rather than a large everyday carryall.
Q: Can this bag be worn crossbody?
A: This example is designed primarily as a shoulder bag. The listed strap drop is approximately 30 cm, so it will generally sit best on the shoulder rather than crossbody, depending on your height and styling preference.
Q: What material is this bag made from?
A: According to the product information, this bag is crafted from black quilted lambskin leather with silver-tone hardware, a chain-link shoulder strap, burgundy leather lining, interior slip pockets, an exterior rear slip pocket, and a front flap with CC turn-lock closure.
Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: This bag includes a serial number tag. Everything included is listed under the product information section; if an item such as an authenticity card, box, or dust bag is not listed there, it should not be assumed to be included.
Q: What condition is this bag in?
A: This bag is listed in Very Good Condition. The external condition notes creased leather and scuffed corners, the internal condition notes scratches on the inside of the flap, and the hardware is described as shiny with light scratches. As with all vintage Chanel pieces, gentle signs of wear are part of the character of the item.
Q: When was this bag likely produced?
A: The serial number 11970551 falls within Chanel’s 11-series range, which is generally associated with production in the mid-to-late 2000s, commonly around 2006 to 2008. This should be treated as an approximate dating reference rather than an exact manufacturing date.
Q: How should I care for vintage lambskin leather?
A: Lambskin is prized for its soft, luxurious feel, but it is more delicate than grained leathers. Handle it with clean, dry hands, avoid rubbing against rough surfaces, keep it away from rain and direct heat, and store it lightly stuffed in a breathable dust bag when not in use. Avoid overfilling, as this can increase creasing and stress on the corners and flap.
Q: Is this an authentic Chanel bag?
A: At A Retro Tale, all items are carefully inspected for authenticity. For vintage Chanel bags, experts typically assess details such as leather quality, quilting, hardware, construction, interior finish, and the serial number format. This bag also retains its serial number tag, which is an important supporting authenticity detail.
Q: Where was this bag made?
A: According to the product information, this Chanel East West Flap Bag was made in Italy.
