Q: Is this Chanel Double Safety Pin Rhinestone Brooch authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it solid silver and are the stones diamonds?
A: Chanel costume jewellery brooches are typically crafted from plated base metal with a silver‑tone finish and glass crystal rhinestones (often referred to as “strass”). They are not solid sterling silver and the stones are not diamonds unless explicitly stated. This piece features a silver‑tone double safety pin with clear rhinestones and a dangling CC logo charm.

Q: How big is it and how will it sit on clothing?
A: The brooch is listed at approximately 1.5 cm (height) x 20 cm (width) x 0.5 cm (depth). The elongated safety‑pin silhouette gives a statement look across a lapel or the chest. If you’d like the precise gram weight or a photo on model for scale, message us and we’ll provide it.

Q: How does it fasten and how can I secure it?
A: It fastens with a pin mechanism integrated into the safety‑pin design. For extra security, consider a locking pin back or a small rubber earring‑back/stopper on the pin tip, and use a thin backing disc or felt pad inside the garment to stabilise and protect fabric.

Q: Which fabrics and accessories does it work best with?
A: Brooches are ideal on structured fabrics such as wool coats, blazers, denim and canvas. On delicate materials (silk, fine knits), test in an inconspicuous spot and use a backing disc to prevent pulls. If styling on a handbag, pin through a reinforced area (like a strap or inner facing) to avoid marking delicate leather.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a vintage Chanel brooch?
A: Most vintage Chanel costume jewellery features an oval or round plaque stamped CHANEL, often with “Made in France/Italy” and, for many pieces, a season/date code (e.g., 01P, 02P). Placement and format vary by era. Our listing photos show any stamps present on this brooch.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin? Is it nickel‑free?
A: Fashion jewellery alloys may contain nickel. If you have sensitivities, wear the brooch over thicker fabric so metal doesn’t contact the skin directly, and discontinue use if irritation occurs. We’re happy to advise further.

Q: How should I care for the silver‑tone plating and rhinestones?
A: Keep it dry and away from perfume, lotions, hairspray and hand sanitiser. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Do not soak, use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical dips—moisture can loosen glued stone settings. Store it separately in a pouch/box to minimise friction and preserve shine.

Q: Can it be repaired, replated or converted?
A: A competent jeweller can often tighten/straighten the pin, replace a catch, and perform light replating. Brooch‑to‑pendant converters exist if you’d like to wear it as a necklace. We don’t offer in‑house modifications; contact us for reputable specialists. Note that alterations may affect originality and resale value.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This brooch is in Very Good Condition with light signs of careful wear possible unless noted otherwise. Only accessories specifically shown or listed are included—this item comes with no accessories. Returns are accepted under our standard policy; please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
