Q: What typically fits inside the Chanel Patent Kelly Top Handle Bag?
A: With measurements of approx. 20 x 16 x 7 cm, it suits refined essentials: a large smartphone, compact wallet or cardholder, keys, lipstick, small cosmetics, and slim sunglasses in a soft sleeve. An A6 notebook/diary can fit; A5 notebooks, water bottles and tablets generally do not. For certainty, compare your items to the Measurements on this page or ask us for a tailored fit check for this exact piece.

Q: Will it fit an iPhone Pro/Max or a continental (long) wallet?
A: Most iPhone Pro/Max models fit comfortably without a bulky case. A continental wallet may fit snugly (often diagonally) and can be limited by the flap and internal pockets. If you’d like, we can perform a quick fit test against this specific bag before you purchase.

Q: Does it have a shoulder strap? How can I wear it?
A: This vintage Kelly features a single rolled top handle and typically does not include a shoulder strap. This piece lists a handle drop of approx. 9 cm—ideal for hand or wrist carry; it may sit in the crook of the arm depending on sleeve thickness. It isn’t designed for shoulder or crossbody wear. We don’t recommend aftermarket conversions that could mark hardware or stress the handle.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior layout?
A: It has a flap with the classic CC turn‑lock closure for everyday security. Inside you’ll find black leather lining with one zipped pocket and one slip pocket—perfect for organising small essentials. Please review our photos for the exact configuration of this piece.

Q: What is Chanel patent leather and how should I care for it?
A: Chanel patent is glossy coated calfskin that delivers a mirror‑like shine. Treat it with care: avoid prolonged sunlight, heat, and contact with dark fabrics to minimise colour transfer; fingerprints are normal and wipe away with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use standard leather conditioners on patent—if needed, use a specialist patent cleaner very sparingly after testing on a discreet area.

Q: Is patent leather water‑resistant?
A: Patent offers decent day‑to‑day resistance to light splashes but isn’t fully waterproof. If it gets lightly wet, blot (don’t rub) with a soft cloth and allow to air‑dry away from heat. Avoid heavy rain and do not use solvents or alcohol‑based products on the finish.

Q: How should I store it, especially as this piece has softened and shows some cracking/creasing?
A: Store upright, lightly stuffed to support the silhouette, in a breathable dust bag. Keep the flap and handle separated with a soft cloth to prevent imprints, and avoid stacking heavy items on top. Maintain a stable, cool environment—extreme heat can exacerbate patent creasing and cracking. Handle the flap gently and avoid overfilling to preserve structure.

Q: What about the hardware—finish and care?
A: This bag features gold‑tone hardware. Hairline scratches and some discolouration are noted and are typical with vintage use. To care, buff gently with a clean, soft cloth and avoid abrasive polishes that may remove plating. Protect hardware from rubbing during storage to minimise further marks.

Q: Where are the brand markings and codes located, and what accessories are included?
A: Authentic Chanel bags feature an interior heat‑stamp (e.g., “CHANEL” and country of origin) and a serial number inside. This piece includes a serial number tag (No. 0954684) and its authenticity card; any accessories provided are listed under “Accessories.” Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps and serial details—we stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell.

Q: Is the Chanel Kelly Top Handle still produced?
A: The classic Chanel Kelly is a vintage design and is not part of Chanel’s current regular offerings. The pre‑loved market is the best way to find authentic examples like this black quilted patent version.

Q: Where is this specific bag made and what is its condition?
A: It is stamped Made in France. Condition: External—Good, with some cracking and creasing in the patent leather and a softened structure; Interior—Very Good with light traces of use; Hardware—Shiny with scratches and some discolouration. Please review our photos and contact us for any close‑ups or additional details.
