Q: Are these pierced earrings or clip-ons?
A: They are clip-on earrings, designed for non‑pierced ears and equally suitable for those with piercings who prefer clip fastenings.

Q: Are clip-on earrings comfortable and secure to wear?
A: When correctly fitted, clip-ons stay secure and can be comfortable. For added comfort, use soft silicone or foam pads and take occasional breaks during long wear. Avoid sleeping in them and test the fit before heading out.

Q: Can the clip tension be adjusted?
A: Many vintage clips use paddle or screw-back mechanisms that allow minor adjustment. Screw-backs can be loosened or tightened slightly; paddle clips may be fine‑tuned by a professional jeweller. Avoid forcing the hinge—if unsure, ask a jeweller to adjust them for you.

Q: Can these be converted to pierced earrings?
A: A skilled jeweller can often add posts to clip-on styles, but this permanently alters the piece and can affect collectability and value. We offer the item as originally designed; any conversion would be at the buyer’s discretion after purchase.

Q: What are they made of?
A: They feature a gold‑tone finish typical of Givenchy fashion jewellery of the era. They are not solid gold. The exact base metal is unknown; if you have metal sensitivities, consider using barrier pads on the clips.

Q: Will clip-ons hurt if worn for many hours?
A: Comfort varies by ear shape and clip type. To minimise pressure, ensure a snug but not tight fit, add comfort pads, and limit continuous wear. If you experience persistent pinching, have a jeweller assess and adjust the clips.

Q: How big and heavy are they?
A: The compact heart silhouette is easy for everyday wear. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions; clip fastenings distribute weight across the lobe, which many find comfortable for this size.

Q: How should I care for gold‑tone vintage jewellery?
A: Wipe after wear with a soft, dry cloth. Keep away from water, perfumes, lotions and hairspray. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemical dips, which can damage the finish. Store them separately in the box or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.

Q: Are they authentic Givenchy?
A: Yes—every piece at A Retro Tale is thoroughly authenticated by our experts. Vintage Givenchy earrings are typically signed on the clip or reverse; signatures vary by era and may read Givenchy, Givenchy Paris, or Givenchy Paris New York. We are happy to share close‑up stamp photos on request.

Q: What is included and what is the condition?
A: This pair comes with a box, as listed under Accessories. They are in Very Good vintage condition with light signs of use; the hardware is shiny with fine surface scratches consistent with age.
