Q: What is the chain length and how will it sit when worn?
A: The chain is approximately 44 cm, which typically sits around the collarbone on most people and layers well with longer necklaces. Please refer to the size guide notes above for how different lengths tend to fall on the neckline.

Q: What metal is this and what does 925 mean?
A: It is solid sterling silver. The 925 mark denotes an alloy containing 92.5% pure silver, the international standard for sterling silver used by Tiffany & Co.

Q: Will sterling silver tarnish and how should I clean it?
A: Yes, sterling silver can naturally tarnish over time, especially with exposure to air, humidity, perfume, lotions or chlorinated water. Clean gently with a quality silver polishing cloth or a silver jewellery cleaner made for sterling, then rinse in warm water and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive products such as toothpaste. Store in a dry, anti-tarnish pouch when not in use.

Q: Is the Open Heart design by Elsa Peretti and is it still part of the current collection?
A: Yes. The Open Heart is an iconic design by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. and remains an ongoing part of the brand’s collection in various sizes and chain lengths.

Q: Is the chain adjustable or can the length be changed?
A: This piece is a fixed length at about 44 cm. A professional jeweller can usually shorten a fine chain, and small extenders can be added to lengthen if desired. Any alterations should be done carefully to preserve the piece.

Q: Can I wear it every day, including in the shower or pool?
A: It is suitable for daily wear, but remove it before swimming, showering, exercising or applying skincare, perfume or hairspray. Chemicals and moisture accelerate tarnish and can dull the finish over time. Wipe with a soft cloth after wear.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed under the product information on this page. For this piece, there are no additional items included. Please review the imagery and details for exactly what comes with the necklace.

Q: What is the condition of this vintage piece?
A: It is graded Very Good Condition. The silver remains shiny with light surface scratches consistent with gentle wear, as visible in the photos. Vintage pieces may show minor signs of age while remaining beautiful for everyday wear.

Q: How can I tell if a Tiffany Open Heart is authentic?
A: Authentic pieces typically have precise, crisp stamps such as Tiffany & Co. and the metal purity mark (e.g., 925), and many Elsa Peretti designs also bear her signature. Craftsmanship, proportions and quality of the chain and clasp are key indicators. Every item at A Retro Tale is thoroughly authenticated by our experts before it is offered for sale.

Q: Can Tiffany clean or service this necklace in the future?
A: Tiffany boutiques offer cleaning and a range of aftercare services, and many trusted jewellers can also assist with cleaning, polishing and minor repairs. Keep your receipt and any future service documentation for your records.
