ChanelClassic Medium Double Flap Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Chanel Classic Medium Double Flap Bag?
A: With measurements of approximately 25.5 x 15.5 x 6 cm, this medium size usually fits a phone, card holder or compact wallet, keys, lipstick, and a few small daily essentials. It is ideal for day-to-evening use, but the double-flap construction does reduce interior space slightly compared with more open bag styles. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for the exact dimensions of this item.

Q: Can this bag be worn on the shoulder or crossbody?
A: Yes. The leather-threaded chain can be worn doubled on the shoulder or lengthened for a longer shoulder drop. For this item, the strap drop is approximately 23 cm doubled and 43 cm single. On many people, the medium classic flap works best as a shoulder bag; on smaller frames it may sit as a short crossbody, but fit will vary by height and styling preference.

Q: What does double flap mean?
A: A double flap design features the main front flap plus a second inner flap inside the bag. This construction is one of the signature details of the classic model and is loved for its structured feel, added security, and iconic interior layout. It also means the bag is slightly more structured and a little less spacious than a single-flap design of similar size.

Q: Is caviar leather a good choice for everyday use?
A: Yes. Chanel’s caviar leather is a grained calfskin known for being more durable and more scratch-resistant than smoother leathers such as lambskin. It is especially popular for structured classic flaps because it tends to hold its shape well, though it should still be handled carefully and protected from rubbing, moisture, and overfilling.

Q: Is this bag vintage, and what does the serial number indicate?
A: Yes, this is a vintage Chanel piece. The 6-series serial number places production approximately between 2000 and 2002. Bags from this era used Chanel’s serial sticker system, which is one of several details considered when assessing age and authenticity.

Q: How should I care for this vintage Chanel bag?
A: We recommend wiping it gently with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding harsh cleaners, and keeping it away from prolonged sunlight, humidity, perfume, makeup, and heavy rain. Store it upright in its dust bag, ideally lightly stuffed with tissue to help maintain its shape, and avoid overloading it so the structure stays crisp over time.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: This bag comes with a dust bag. Everything included with the item is listed in the product information on this page; if a box or authenticity card is not listed there, it is not included with this piece.

Q: What is the condition of this specific bag?
A: The overall condition is Very Good. The exterior shows light traces of use, the interior is also in Very Good condition with light wear and some stains on the leather, and the hardware remains shiny with light scratches. These notes reflect gentle prior use consistent with a well-kept vintage Chanel bag.

Q: Where was this bag made?
A: According to the product information for this item, it was made in France.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully vetted by specialists using multiple checkpoints such as materials, construction, hardware, stamps, serial details, and overall consistency with the model and era. We stand behind the authenticity of the pieces we offer.
