Dimensions & Specifications

Q: What size is this watch, and will it fit me?
A: The exact case diameter and wrist fit details for this piece should be checked in the product information. Speedmaster watches can wear differently depending on the case shape, lug length, bracelet or strap, and your wrist size, so reviewing the measurements is the best way to judge fit.

Please note that the majority of our items are vintage and therefore have tales to tell unless stated otherwise. Therefore, please look at pictures, descriptions and measurements provided as they give you the best idea of the story this item has to tell.

* Please note that when you buy a vintage product, the dimensions may vary slightly from a new one depending on previous care and storage.

Q: What makes the Omega Speedmaster such an iconic watch?
A: The Speedmaster is one of Omega’s most celebrated watch lines, best known for its long association with space exploration and its classic chronograph design. It is especially popular with collectors for its strong heritage, versatile styling, and enduring resale appeal.

Q: Is this Omega Speedmaster watch authentic?
A: Yes. Every watch sold by A Retro Tale is carefully inspected for authenticity by in-house experts. We assess key details such as construction, dial, movement characteristics, engravings, and overall consistency before a piece is offered for sale.

Q: What condition is this watch in?
A: This watch is listed in Good Condition. As a pre-owned vintage or second-hand item, it may show normal signs of use such as light surface wear, small marks, or gentle ageing. Please review the product images and product information for the best understanding of its present condition.

Q: Does this watch come with the original box or papers?
A: Any included extras are shown in the product information. If box, authenticity card, or other accessories are not listed there, they should not be assumed to be included.

Q: Is this Speedmaster manual-wind or automatic?
A: The Speedmaster family includes both manual-wind and automatic models, depending on the exact reference. As the reference number is not provided in the product information for this listing, please refer to the product information or contact us if you would like help confirming the movement type for this specific watch.

Q: Can I swim or shower while wearing this watch?
A: We do not recommend exposing a pre-owned watch to water unless it has been recently pressure-tested and confirmed suitable for such use. Water resistance can vary by Speedmaster reference and may change over time as seals age, so it is safest to treat vintage and second-hand watches with extra care.

Q: How often should an Omega Speedmaster be serviced?
A: As a general guideline, Omega recommends periodic maintenance, with water-resistance checks and a full service at appropriate intervals depending on use. For a pre-owned watch, service history is especially important, so feel free to contact us if you would like guidance before purchase.

Q: What does the chronograph function do?
A: A chronograph is a stopwatch function built into the watch. On a Speedmaster, it is typically used to measure elapsed time using the central chronograph hand together with the sub-dials, making it both practical and a key part of the model’s iconic look.

Q: Does this watch have a tachymeter bezel, and what is it for?
A: Many Speedmaster models feature a tachymeter scale on the bezel, which is used to calculate average speed over a known distance. It is one of the most recognisable visual details of the Speedmaster line, though exact features can vary by reference.
