Q: Is this Chanel Camellia Brooch authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it solid silver or gold?
A: Chanel costume jewellery brooches are typically crafted from plated base metal (often brass) with enamel or resin detailing. This piece features black enamel with gunmetal‑tone hardware and an interlocking CC detail. It is not solid precious metal unless explicitly stated.

Q: How big is it and how will it look when worn?
A: The brooch measures approximately 5.5 cm (height) x 5.0 cm (width) x 2.8 cm (depth). It reads as a statement Camellia accent on lapels, coats, knitwear or accessories without being overly heavy. If you’d like the exact gram weight or a photo on model for scale, message us and we’ll provide it.

Q: How does it fasten and is it secure?
A: It has a traditional pin‑back closure. For extra security, you may add a small locking pin clutch or a soft backing disc (felt/makeup‑sponge style) on the inside of the garment to stabilise the pin and reduce pull, especially on delicate knits.

Q: Can I wear it on coats, knitwear, scarves or bags?
A: Yes—brooches work best on structured fabrics like wool, tweed, denim and canvas. On delicate fabrics (silk, fine cashmere), test in an inconspicuous spot and consider a backing disc to prevent stretching or snags. If pinning to a handbag, use a reinforced area or strap to avoid marking delicate leather.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a Chanel brooch, and can it help date the piece?
A: Most vintage Chanel brooches feature an oval or round plaque stamped CHANEL and often “Made in France/Italy”, sometimes with a season code. Common season letters include P (Printemps/Spring), A (Automne/Fall) and C (Cruise). Placement and format vary by era. Our listing photos show any stamps present; this piece is noted as France.

Q: Is it nickel‑free and suitable for sensitive skin?
A: Fashion jewellery alloys can contain nickel, and sensitivities vary. If you have allergies, consider wearing the brooch over thicker fabric so the metal doesn’t touch skin directly, and discontinue use if irritation occurs. We’re happy to advise further.

Q: How should I care for the enamel and gunmetal‑tone plating?
A: Keep it dry and away from perfume, lotions, hairspray and hand sanitiser. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Do not soak, use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical dips. Store it individually in a pouch/box, away from humidity and direct sunlight, to preserve the finish and enamel.

Q: Can it be repaired, replated or converted to a pendant?
A: A competent jeweller can often straighten/tighten the pin, replace a catch, and perform gentle replating. Enamel touch‑ups may be possible through specialised workshops. Brooch‑to‑pendant converters also exist if you’d like to wear it as a necklace. We don’t offer in‑house modifications; contact us for reputable specialists. Note that alterations may affect originality and resale value.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This brooch is in Very Good Condition with light signs of careful wear possible unless stated otherwise. Only accessories specifically shown or listed are included; this item comes with no accessories. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
