Q: What typically fits inside this Chanel Coco Mark Caviar Tote Bag?
A: With approximate measurements of 35 x 27 x 10 cm, this tote is well suited to daily essentials such as a long wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses case, cosmetics pouch and notebook. It can also accommodate A4-sized papers and many tablets, but we recommend checking your own items against the Measurements listed on this page for the best fit.

Q: Can this bag be carried on the shoulder?
A: Yes, the handle drop is approximately 22 cm, which generally allows for comfortable shoulder carry as well as hand carry. The fit can vary slightly depending on clothing and personal preference.

Q: What is caviar leather, and is it durable?
A: Chanel’s caviar leather is known for its textured, pebbled finish and structured feel. It is generally considered more resistant to visible scratches and everyday wear than smoother leathers, which makes it a practical choice for a vintage tote intended for regular use.

Q: How should I care for vintage caviar leather?
A: We recommend gently wiping the bag with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth, avoiding harsh cleaners and keeping it away from prolonged moisture, direct heat and strong sunlight. When not in use, store it lightly stuffed to help maintain its shape and keep it in a breathable storage environment.

Q: What year is this bag from?
A: The serial number starts with 1, which corresponds to Chanel production from 1989 to 1991. As with most vintage Chanel pieces, the serial number helps date the bag, but it should always be considered alongside the overall construction, materials and details.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: This item includes the serial number tag. If anything else is not listed in the product information, it is not included with the bag.

Q: What condition is this bag in?
A: This bag is rated Very Good. The exterior shows a light trace of use, the interior has minor marks, the hardware remains shiny with light scratches and some tarnishing, and the serial number tag is a bit lifted. Please review all product images carefully for the most accurate impression of condition.

Q: Is a slightly lifted serial number tag normal on a vintage Chanel bag?
A: It can be seen on older Chanel bags due to age and use. On this item, the lifted serial number tag is already noted in the condition details. For vintage pieces, this type of wear is not unusual and should be assessed together with the bag’s overall quality and authenticity checks.

Q: Where was this bag made?
A: According to the product details, this bag was made in France.

Q: How do you authenticate vintage Chanel bags?
A: At A Retro Tale, vintage designer items are evaluated through a combination of expert checks, including materials, construction, hardware, stamps and serial details. For vintage Chanel, the serial number is an important clue, but it is never the only point considered when assessing authenticity.
