Q: Is this Chanel Coco Mark Rhinestone Pin Brooch authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Are the stones diamonds and are the pearls real?
A: Chanel costume jewellery typically uses plated base metal—in this case a gunmetal‑tone finish—embellished with glass rhinestones/crystals and multicoloured faux pearls. The stones are not diamonds and the pearls are imitation unless explicitly stated otherwise. Please review the photos and contact us if you’d like us to confirm specific composition details for this brooch.

Q: What are the dimensions and weight? Will it feel heavy on a jacket?
A: Please refer to the Measurements section on this page (approximately 2 cm high x 8.5 cm wide). If you’d like the exact dimensions in millimetres and the approximate gram weight for comfort reference, message us and we’ll provide them. Most Chanel brooches have a pleasing presence without feeling overly heavy on typical jacket fabrics.

Q: How does it fasten and is it secure?
A: It features a traditional pin fastening in a safety‑pin silhouette with a closing catch. For the precise mechanism, please check the close‑up images or contact us and we’ll confirm. As with all pins, ensure it is fully closed and anchored through a stable section of fabric.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect? Is it from a specific collection?
A: Most Chanel brooches carry a plaque stamped CHANEL, often with “Made in France/Italy” and a season code. This piece is from the 2009 Fall/Winter collection; our listing photos show any stamps and signatures present. Placement and format can vary by era.

Q: How should I care for the gunmetal finish, rhinestones and faux pearls?
A: Keep the brooch dry and away from perfume, hairspray, lotions, sanitiser and cleaning chemicals. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth; use a dry cotton bud to remove dust around stone and pearl settings. Do not soak, use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical dips. Store individually in a pouch or box, out of direct sunlight and humidity.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin? Is it nickel‑free?
A: Vintage and fashion jewellery may contain nickel. If you have sensitivities, consider wearing it over clothing, using a clear barrier product on contact points, and limiting wear time. Discontinue use if irritation occurs and contact us for guidance.

Q: Will the plating or stones show wear over time? Could it snag fabrics?
A: Plated finishes can show light surface wear or minor colour rub at high‑contact points. Rhinestones can dull if exposed to moisture or cosmetics. Attach brooches to sturdier weaves (e.g., jacket lapels, knitwear) to reduce the risk of fabric pulls; avoid very delicate silks or fine gauze. Proper care and storage help preserve lustre and minimise wear.

Q: Can it be repaired, replated or have stones reset?
A: Many reputable costume‑jewellery specialists can adjust the pin, reset or replace rhinestones/faux pearls, and perform gentle replating. Chanel’s service for costume jewellery is at their discretion and varies by boutique. We don’t offer in‑house modifications but can recommend trusted specialists on request; note that alterations may affect originality and resale value.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: Our listing notes Very Good Condition; light vintage wear such as micro‑scratches or minor plating rub may be present unless stated otherwise. Only accessories specifically shown or listed are included—this item is sold with no accessories. Returns are accepted in line with our policy; please see our Returns page for eligibility and timeframes, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
