Q: What typically fits inside the Small 31 Shopping Bag?
A: With approximate interior dimensions of 25 × 20 × 9 cm, it comfortably holds a smartphone, compact wallet, sunglasses case, keys, lip balm and a passport. An 8-inch tablet or small notebook can fit, and a 330 ml water bottle or compact umbrella fits horizontally. Capacity varies with how you pack—please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Can the strap be worn crossbody?
A: The leather‑interwoven chain shoulder strap has an approximate 30 cm drop, designed for on‑shoulder carry. It is generally not long enough for crossbody wear on most people. Use the integrated cut‑out top handles for hand carry (handle drop about 5 cm).

Q: How secure is the closure?
A: The bag closes with a CC turn‑lock at the front. For added security, keep valuables in the interior zipped pocket and avoid overfilling so the turn‑lock sits flush.

Q: What are the carry options?
A: You can carry it by the cut‑out top handles for a sleek handheld look or on the shoulder using the leather‑interwoven chain strap. It is not designed with an adjustable crossbody‑length strap.

Q: What materials and lining does this piece have?
A: This example is crafted from black quilted leather with gold‑tone hardware and a black fabric lining, featuring one internal zipped pocket.

Q: Will an iPad mini or similar tablet fit?
A: Most 8‑inch tablets fit without a bulky case. If your device has a thick cover, please compare its measurements with the bag’s interior dimensions to be sure.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed in the product information for this specific piece. For this bag that is the box, dust bag and serial number tag.

Q: What does the serial number tag mean—don’t newer Chanel bags have microchips?
A: Chanel used serial number stickers and matching authenticity cards for many years. From 2021 onward, Chanel introduced an embedded microchip on a metal plate in place of stickers/cards. This item includes a serial number tag as noted in the product information.

Q: How should I care for the leather and hardware?
A: Wipe the leather with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Keep away from oils, rain and prolonged sunlight. Store loosely stuffed in its dust bag, with the chain tucked in a soft pouch to prevent imprints. Avoid metal polishes; gently buff hardware with a clean microfibre cloth.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Each item at A Retro Tale undergoes a multi‑point inspection by our in‑house experts, reviewing materials, stitching, quilting, hardware engravings, brand stamps and serials. We stand behind the authenticity of every item and can provide further details on request.
