Q: What size is the Carré 45 and how does it wear compared to the classic 90?
A: The Carré 45 measures approximately 45 x 45 cm, a versatile pocket‑square/bandana size. It’s perfect as a neckerchief, hair tie, wrist wrap, bag accent or folded as a blazer pocket square, while the 90 cm offers fuller neck and shoulder drapes. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: What is the Le Sacre De L’Hiver motif about, and who designed it?
A: Le Sacre De L’Hiver is part of a seasonal story celebrating nature’s cycle. The motif has been interpreted in recent Hermès collections and is credited to the artist Pierre Marie, known for richly symbolic, narrative prints that translate beautifully at the 45 cm format.

Q: Is this scarf cotton or silk, and how does cotton behave when worn?
A: This specific piece is 100% cotton with hand‑rolled edges. Cotton has a slightly crisper, more matte hand than silk, giving a casual bandana feel that holds knots well—great for everyday neckerchiefs, hair styling and pocket squares.

Q: How can I style a 45 cm Hermès scarf day to day?
A: Popular ways include a simple bandana fold at the neck, a petite bow at the throat, wrapped on a handbag handle, tied around a ponytail or headband‑style, folded into a suit breast pocket, or wrapped at the wrist. The compact size makes quick knots and asymmetrical ties especially easy.

Q: How should I care for a cotton Hermès scarf?
A: Always follow the care label. For cotton, a gentle hand wash in cold water with mild detergent is usually safest; rinse well, reshape and dry flat away from direct heat or sunlight. Press on the reverse with a cool iron under a pressing cloth. For older or delicate vintage pieces, or if in doubt, use a trusted specialist cleaner.

Q: Can I machine‑wash this scarf?
A: We recommend hand washing to preserve colour and the hand‑rolled hem. If the care label explicitly allows machine washing, use a cold, delicate cycle in a mesh laundry bag with mild detergent, then remove promptly and dry flat. Never tumble dry.

Q: Will the colours bleed or transfer if it gets wet?
A: High‑quality prints are designed to last, but dyes can migrate if folded or pressed while damp. If caught in rain, gently blot moisture with a soft cloth, allow the scarf to air dry completely laying flat, and avoid folding until fully dry. Apply perfume and cosmetics before dressing to minimise contact with the fabric.

Q: What does “hand‑rolled edges” mean, and why is it important?
A: Hermès scarves are finished with hems that are rolled and hand‑stitched (roulotté), creating a plump, slightly raised edge that rolls toward the front of the print. It’s a hallmark of quality and a key authentication detail; machine‑stitched, flat, or inconsistent hems are red flags on counterfeits.

Q: Is the Carré 45 unisex—can it be worn as a pocket square?
A: Yes. The 45 cm format works beautifully as a pocket square for jackets and blazers and suits any gender. The crisp cotton construction helps the fold hold its shape while adding a refined splash of colour.

Q: What’s included with this item, and what is its condition?
A: This scarf comes with the original Hermès box. It is in Very Good condition with light signs of use, as noted in the Condition section on this page.
