Q: What fits inside the Chanel Lambskin Matelassé Shoulder Bag (Medium)?
A: With approximate dimensions of 25.5 x 15.5 x 6.5 cm, it typically holds a smartphone (including many Pro/Max models without a bulky case), a compact wallet or cardholder, keys, lipstick, slim sunglasses in a soft case, and a passport. A continental wallet can fit but will reduce usable space; small tablets are generally not recommended. For tailored fit advice for this exact piece, please contact us.

Q: Is the chain strap adjustable? Can I wear it crossbody?
A: The strap is not adjustable. It can be worn doubled for shoulder carry (approximately 23 cm drop) or as a single chain (approximately 43 cm drop) for shoulder or high crossbody wear. On most wearers, crossbody carry sits relatively high.

Q: How secure is the closure and what compartments does it have?
A: This bag features a CC turn‑lock flap which offers good everyday security. The configuration on this piece is a main compartment with burgundy leather lining and a back exterior slip pocket. For small valuables, we recommend using a compact zip pouch inside. Please review our photos and description for the exact layout.

Q: What does “Matelassé” mean and how does lambskin compare with caviar leather?
A: Matelassé refers to Chanel’s quilted, padded stitching that creates a sculpted, cushioned look. Lambskin is exceptionally soft with a refined sheen and can show scratches and pressure marks more readily; caviar (pebbled calfskin) is more textured and generally more scratch‑resistant. Choice comes down to feel and care preferences.

Q: How should I care for Chanel lambskin?
A: Keep the bag away from moisture, oils and prolonged sunlight; be mindful of colour transfer from dark denim. Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and condition smooth leather very sparingly with a high‑quality neutral product (test first on a discreet area). Store lightly stuffed, upright, in a breathable dust bag, and avoid overfilling to preserve structure.

Q: Will the chain leave marks on the leather?
A: Chain imprints can occur if the strap rests against the leather during storage. Tuck the chain inside the bag with a soft cloth or felt, avoid overstuffing, and store the bag upright to minimise marks.

Q: Is the hardware 24K gold‑plated?
A: Many earlier vintage Chanel bags featured 24K gold‑plated hardware, while later pieces use gold‑tone without precious plating. Our listing specifies gold‑tone hardware; photos show the exact finish. We’re happy to help date this specific piece on request.

Q: Where are the brand markings and serial codes, and how is dating handled?
A: Authentic Chanel bags have interior branding (e.g., “CHANEL” and “Made in France/Italy”). Vintage pieces typically include a hologram serial sticker and may have an authenticity card; from around 2021 Chanel moved to embedded microchips. This item includes a serial number tag (see Accessories). Placement and format vary by era—contact us for close‑up photos and dating guidance.

Q: Is the Matelassé/Diana‑style shoulder bag still produced?
A: The classic single‑flap Matelassé shoulder bag, often associated with the vintage “Diana” silhouette, is generally discontinued. Availability today is mainly through the pre‑loved market and specialists like A Retro Tale.

Q: What accessories are included and how do you authenticate?
A: Any included items are listed under “Accessories” (for this piece: serial number tag). If something isn’t mentioned there, it isn’t included—feel free to ask us to confirm. Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps and serial sticker/microchip, and we stand behind the authenticity of all pieces we sell.
