Q: What typically fits inside the Altona GM?
A: With this item’s approximate measurements of 38 × 30 × 8 cm, it comfortably holds A4 documents, a diary, chargers, a slim water bottle and daily work essentials. Capacity varies with how you pack—please refer to the Measurements on this page for this exact piece.

Q: Will it fit a laptop, and what size is ideal?
A: Yes. It suits most 13-inch and many slim 14–15-inch laptops or ultrabooks. For thicker devices or when using a padded sleeve, space may be tighter. Always compare your device’s dimensions with the Measurements shown here for the best guidance.

Q: Does this model come with a shoulder strap or D‑rings?
A: The Altona GM is designed as a structured, hand‑carried briefcase with a single top handle. A shoulder strap is not part of the design, and none is included with this piece; everything included is listed in the product information section for this item.

Q: What is the interior layout like?
A: The briefcase features a brown Alcantara (microfibre) lining with multiple compartments and pockets for organisation, plus a useful exterior back slip pocket for quick‑access items.

Q: How does the front lock work and are keys included?
A: The front flap uses Louis Vuitton’s push/S‑lock closure that clicks shut and opens via the release mechanism on the lock. Some examples can be secured with a small key; a key is only included if specifically stated in the product information for this piece.

Q: Is the Damier Ebene canvas durable and how should I care for it?
A: Damier Ebene is a coated canvas known for everyday durability and light water resistance. Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and mild soapy water if needed. Avoid harsh chemicals, alcohol‑based products and oils. Store loosely stuffed in a cool, ventilated space away from direct heat.

Q: Is the Altona GM still produced new by Louis Vuitton?
A: This is a vintage model that is generally no longer offered new by the Maison and is now found on the pre‑owned market. Measurements can vary slightly by production year and listing.

Q: What does “GM” mean in Louis Vuitton sizing?
A: GM stands for Grand Modèle, indicating the largest size in a given style family (larger than PM and MM). It’s intended to accommodate documents and a laptop for professional use.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag, and what if the date code is illegible?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts. Note that Louis Vuitton uses date codes (not serial numbers), and on Alcantara linings codes can fade or become hard to read with age. An unclear code does not by itself determine authenticity; overall construction, materials, stamps and hardware are assessed.

Q: Can Louis Vuitton service this briefcase if I ever need repairs?
A: Louis Vuitton boutiques can evaluate items for paid repairs or maintenance. You can request an assessment through their care/repair service; availability, scope and cost depend on the item’s condition and parts at the time.
