Q: What defines this Rolex Datejust 36mm Ref. 16014 from 1984?
A: It’s a classic Datejust in stainless steel with a 36mm Oyster case, an 18ct white gold fluted bezel, and a blue dial with date at 3 o’clock under the Cyclops. This example features the period-correct acrylic crystal, an automatic movement, and a stainless steel Jubilee bracelet with folding clasp.

Q: Does this reference have acrylic or sapphire crystal?
A: Reference 16014 is fitted with an acrylic (plexiglass) crystal with Cyclops magnifier. Sapphire crystals arrived with the later 162xx series, not the 160xx generation.

Q: Which movement powers it, and does it have a Quickset date?
A: It uses the Rolex Calibre 3035, a self-winding chronometer beating at 28,800 vph with hacking seconds and a Quickset date, allowing you to change the date independently via the crown.

Q: Is it water-resistant?
A: The Oyster case was originally rated to 100 metres. However, as a vintage piece, water resistance cannot be guaranteed without a current pressure test. We recommend treating it as splash-resistant only and avoiding swimming or showering unless it has just passed a professional pressure test.

Q: Will this watch fit my wrist?
A: This specific piece fits a wrist circumference of up to 19.5 cm. The Jubilee bracelet can be sized down by removing links. If you need additional length, extra links can often be sourced separately (none are included with this listing).

Q: Can I swap the bracelet for a strap? What size do I need?
A: Yes. The 16014 has a 20mm lug width (with lug holes on most examples), so a standard 20mm leather or fabric strap will fit. Always use quality spring bars and have changes performed by a professional to avoid case scratches.

Q: How do I set the time and date safely on the Cal. 3035?
A: Unscrew the crown: Position 1 winds the watch. Pull to the next click for the Quickset date. Pull fully out to set the time (the seconds hand stops). Important: avoid changing the date roughly between 9 pm and 3 am, when the calendar mechanism is engaged. After setting, push the crown in and screw it down firmly.

Q: What is included with the purchase?
A: This listing is “watch only” (no original box or papers). It is fully authenticated by A Retro Tale and delivered in secure packaging. We provide a 12‑month movement warranty for your peace of mind.

Q: How often should a vintage Datejust like this be serviced?
A: Rolex suggests around 10 years for modern watches, but vintage pieces often benefit from checks or servicing every 5–7 years, depending on use. Have gaskets and water resistance tested more frequently if you wear it regularly.

Q: How does Ref. 16014 differ from the later Ref. 16234?
A: Both are 36mm steel Datejusts with white gold fluted bezels. The 16014 (this watch) has an acrylic crystal and Cal. 3035, while the 16234 introduced sapphire crystal and the Cal. 3135 from around 1988.
