Q: What is this necklace made from?
A: It is crafted in solid sterling silver. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver alloyed for strength and lustre, and Tiffany & Co. is renowned for its sterling silver heritage.

Q: What is the chain length and fastening on this piece?
A: The ball chain on this necklace measures approximately 41 cm in perimeter and secures with a spring ring closure. If you prefer a longer drop, you can add a small extender or switch to a longer chain.

Q: Will sterling silver tarnish, and how should I clean it?
A: Yes—tarnish is natural. Clean with mild soap in warm water, rinse, dry thoroughly and finish with a soft silver polishing cloth. Store pieces dry and individually to reduce exposure to air and chemicals. Avoid chlorine, sulphur, and harsh cleaners to minimise tarnish.

Q: Can the heart key pendant be moved to a different chain?
A: In most cases the pendant’s bail will accommodate slim to medium chains, allowing you to swap chains for different looks. Bail openings vary by design, so if you plan to use a thicker chain, check the opening or consult a jeweller.

Q: Can this necklace be engraved?
A: Tiffany & Co. offers engraving on select designs, subject to the shape and size of the piece. Availability for key motifs depends on the specific pendant. A Tiffany boutique or a trusted jeweller can advise on feasibility for your desired initials or message.

Q: How can I tell if a Tiffany silver necklace is authentic?
A: Authentic Tiffany pieces typically bear clear metal and maker’s marks such as Tiffany & Co. and a sterling mark (for example, 925). Hallmark style and placement can vary by country and era. A Retro Tale thoroughly authenticates every item we sell and stands behind its authenticity.

Q: What does the key motif represent, and when was the Tiffany Keys collection introduced?
A: The key motif in the Tiffany Keys collection symbolises new beginnings and possibilities. The modern collection was introduced in 2009, inspired by archival Tiffany keys.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed under the product information on this page. If a pouch, box or additional items are not listed there, they are not included.

Q: Is this necklace suitable for everyday wear, including in the shower or pool?
A: Sterling silver is durable for daily wear, but remove it before swimming, hot tubs or exposure to chlorinated or sulphurous water, and before applying lotions or perfume. This helps preserve the finish and reduces tarnish.

Q: What signs of wear should I expect on a vintage sterling silver necklace?
A: Light surface scratches and a subtle patina are normal. This piece is graded in Very Good Condition with shiny hardware showing light scratches, as noted in the product information.
