Q: What typically fits inside this bag?
A: With approximate measurements of 36 x 25 x 14 cm, this tote is spacious enough for daily essentials such as a long wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, a cosmetics pouch and a small notebook or tablet. Many slim 13-inch laptops may also fit, but we recommend comparing your device with the listed measurements before purchase.

Q: Is this a good everyday or work bag?
A: Yes. The Grand Shopping Tote is widely loved as an everyday Chanel style because it offers a structured shape, generous capacity and an organised interior. This example has three compartments and two pockets, which helps keep essentials tidy throughout the day.

Q: Does the bag fully zip closed?
A: No. The GST is generally designed with an open top rather than a full zip across the top. Instead, it typically features a central zipped compartment and additional interior sections for organisation.

Q: Is caviar leather durable?
A: Yes. Chanel’s caviar leather is known for its grained texture and better resistance to scratches and daily wear than smoother leathers. It is a practical choice for regular use, although it should still be protected from moisture, colour transfer and overfilling.

Q: Are the straps comfortable on the shoulder?
A: This style is designed for shoulder carry and this item has an approximate 23 cm handle drop. The leather-and-chain straps are comfortable for everyday use, but like many structured leather totes, the bag can feel heavier when packed full.

Q: Is the Chanel GST discontinued?
A: Yes. The Grand Shopping Tote is a discontinued Chanel style, which is one reason it remains so sought-after on the pre-loved market. Its classic shape and practical size have helped it stay popular with collectors and everyday users alike.

Q: What does the serial number tell me?
A: The serial number listed for this item begins with 17, which corresponds to a production period of approximately 2012 to 2013. On pre-loved Chanel bags, the serial number is one important point of reference alongside materials, stitching, hardware and overall construction.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: The product information lists the serial number. If an authenticity card, dust bag, box or other extras are not specifically mentioned in the product information, they should not be assumed to be included.

Q: How should I care for this bag?
A: Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh cleaners or oils. Do not overfill the bag, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and moisture, and store it upright in a breathable dust bag with light stuffing to help maintain its shape. As this is a light-toned leather bag, take extra care to avoid colour transfer from dark clothing such as denim.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully checked by specialists using details such as leather, stitching, hardware, serial markings and overall craftsmanship. We only sell pieces that have passed our authenticity review.
