Q: Is this Chanel CC brooch solid gold?
A: No. This is a fashion (costume) jewellery piece crafted in gold‑tone metal with crystal embellishments. Chanel’s brooches in the Fashion line are typically described as metal with strass or glass elements; only Fine Jewellery pieces are made in precious metals like 18k gold. Please see the Materials section on this page for specifics about this item.

Q: Will the gold‑tone finish tarnish or fade?
A: Plated finishes can dull over time with exposure to moisture, perfume, and abrasion. To preserve the shine, put the brooch on after cosmetics and fragrance, avoid water and household chemicals, wipe with a soft dry cloth after wear, and store it separately to prevent scratches.

Q: How should I wear it without damaging my clothes?
A: Pin through thicker fabrics (lapels, blazers, denim, wool) or along a seam for extra support. Avoid very delicate silks or ultra‑fine knits. Always close the safety clasp fully and remove the brooch before pulling tight garments on or off. For fragile fabrics, consider a magnetic brooch backer so you don’t pierce the material.

Q: Can I pin it on a handbag or hat?
A: You can, but pinning through leather will leave permanent holes and may stress softer leathers like lambskin. If you want the look on a bag, we recommend using a magnetic adapter or attaching the brooch to a scarf threaded through the hardware rather than piercing the leather.

Q: How do I clean and care for the crystals?
A: Gently dust with a soft, lint‑free cloth only. Avoid soaking, ultrasonic cleaners, jewellery polishes, alcohol, or detergents, as these can loosen settings or cloud stones. Keep the brooch dry and store it in a soft pouch, separate from other pieces.

Q: How can I tell the era and authenticity of a Chanel brooch?
A: Authentic Chanel costume jewellery typically has a CHANEL signature stamp on the back; the stamp’s shape and text changed by era and can help date a piece. There are no serial numbers for costume jewellery. Hallmarks should be considered alongside overall build quality, materials, and craftsmanship. At A Retro Tale, every item is authenticated with multi‑point checks, and we can provide hallmark close‑ups upon request.

Q: What is included with this listing?
A: The listing comprises the brooch only. Please refer to the product information section on this page for everything that is included.

Q: What are the measurements and how will it sit when worn?
A: Approximate height is 3.7 cm with a depth of 0.5 cm. Width is not specified. On most lapels or knits, this size reads as a refined accent rather than oversized. Please see the Measurements section for precise details.

Q: Is this suitable for sensitive skin?
A: As a costume jewellery piece made from base metal with a gold‑tone finish, it may not be suitable for those with metal sensitivities. We suggest wearing it over clothing rather than directly against the skin if you are sensitive, and discontinuing wear if any irritation occurs.

Q: Can missing crystals or a loose clasp be repaired?
A: Many professional jewellers experienced with costume jewellery can replace strass crystals and service clasps. If you ever need assistance, contact us and we’ll be happy to recommend trusted specialists.
