Q: What is this brooch made of?
A: It is crafted in solid sterling silver (925), part of Georg Jensen’s iconic Moonlight Grapes motif. Vintage examples may show a softly aged patina that can be preserved if you prefer a classic look.

Q: How large is it and how does it fasten?
A: The brooch measures approximately 6.6 cm high, 3.5 cm wide and 2 cm deep, and secures with a traditional pin fastening at the back. It sits comfortably on jackets, coats and knitwear; for very delicate fabrics like fine silk, consider pinning through a seam or using a protective backing.

Q: Will sterling silver tarnish and how should I care for it?
A: Sterling silver naturally develops tarnish over time. Wipe after wear and polish occasionally with a soft silver-polishing cloth. Avoid silver-dip solutions and harsh abrasives. If the piece has an intentionally oxidised finish (common on some Moonlight Grapes designs), avoid over-polishing to preserve the darker details. Store the brooch separately in a pouch or box when not in use.

Q: Can I wear a brooch without damaging my clothes?
A: Yes—choose sturdier fabrics (wool, denim, tweed) or pin through seams/lapels. For delicate materials, add a small fabric patch on the inside as reinforcement or use a magnetic brooch plate. If you use strong magnets, keep them away from pacemakers and electronics.

Q: Can this brooch be worn as a pendant?
A: Many brooches can be converted using a small brooch-to-pendant converter that slides over the pin, letting you hang it on a chain or ribbon. Choose a converter that matches the pin’s orientation (horizontal or vertical).

Q: What hallmarks should I expect to see on a vintage Georg Jensen brooch?
A: Georg Jensen silver is typically stamped on the reverse. Depending on era, marks can include the Georg Jensen oval maker’s mark, “925 S” or “Sterling”, “Denmark”, and often a design number. Exact stamps vary by production period and do not affect wearability.

Q: Is this an original vintage piece?
A: Yes, this item is described as vintage and is in very good pre-loved condition with light signs of wear consistent with age. Please review the condition notes and images on this page for full details.

Q: What is included with my purchase?
A: Everything included is listed under the product information section. If a branded box is mentioned there, it will be included; if it is not listed, it is not included.

Q: Is sterling silver suitable for sensitive skin?
A: Sterling silver is generally alloyed with copper and is typically well tolerated. EU regulations limit nickel release from jewellery, but sensitivities vary by person—if you have a severe allergy, consider using a barrier (like clear nail lacquer on the contact area) or consult a professional for testing.

Q: How do you authenticate this piece?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in-house experts using multi-point checks of materials, craftsmanship, hallmarks and design details. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide additional information on request.
