Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton City Steamer PM?
A: As a structured small/medium tote, it comfortably carries daily essentials: a large smartphone (including most Pro/Max models), a continental wallet or compact wallet, keys, lipstick and small cosmetics, slim sunglasses in a soft sleeve, and an A5 diary/notebook. A small water bottle and a compact tablet can often fit, but capacity is influenced by the structured opening—please refer to the Measurements on this page or ask us for a tailored fit check for this exact piece.

Q: Will it fit a tablet or laptop?
A: Slim tablets up to around 10–10.9 inches typically fit; thicker cases may be snug due to the structured silhouette. A 13‑inch laptop generally does not fit comfortably. Compare your device’s dimensions with the Measurements listed (31 × 20 × 13 cm) or ask us to perform a quick fit check for this item.

Q: Is the shoulder strap adjustable or removable? Can I wear it crossbody?
A: The City Steamer PM’s shoulder strap is detachable and typically not adjustable, allowing shoulder or high crossbody wear depending on your preference. We list the drops in the Measurements section—this piece shows approximately an 11 cm handle drop and a 34 cm strap drop. If you’d like advice on how it sits on you, just ask and we’ll help.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior layout?
A: This model features a hook clasp closure for the main compartment, providing good day‑to‑day security, plus a rear zipped pocket for valuables. The interior is black leather with one main compartment and a rear zipped pocket. Our listing photos show the exact configuration of this piece.

Q: What is Taurillon leather and how does it wear?
A: Taurillon is a high‑quality grained calf leather known for its rich texture, durability and structured feel. It tends to resist light surface marks better than very smooth leathers and maintains its shape well. With proper care, it develops a refined patina over time without slouching excessively.

Q: How should I care for Taurillon leather and the hardware?
A: Keep the leather away from moisture, oils and prolonged sunlight, and be mindful of potential colour transfer from dark denim (especially on lighter leathers). Wipe with a soft, dry cloth; use a premium neutral leather conditioner very sparingly and always test on a discreet area first. Store the bag lightly stuffed, upright, in a breathable dust bag. To minimise imprints, place a soft cloth between the strap/handles and the leather during storage. Hardware will develop normal hairline scratches—avoid abrasive surfaces and protect it during storage.

Q: Are the padlock and keys functional, and do they secure the main compartment?
A: The included padlock and keys are functional, but they do not secure the hook‑clasp main closure on the City Steamer PM. The padlock is primarily decorative and may be used with designated hardware details. For valuables, use the rear zipped pocket and keep the bag upright when commuting.

Q: Where are the brand markings and codes located, and how is dating handled?
A: Authentic Louis Vuitton bags feature an interior heat‑stamp (e.g., “LOUIS VUITTON Paris” and the country of origin). Older pieces typically include a date code on a small leather tab or along an interior seam; from around 2021 LV transitioned to an embedded microchip instead of a visible code. This item shows a date code, and is stamped Made in Italy—placement can vary by era. We’re happy to share close‑up photos and help interpret the code for this exact piece.

Q: Is the City Steamer PM still produced?
A: The City Steamer line continues to appear in Louis Vuitton’s collection, with seasonal variations in leather, colours and hardware. Availability of specific Taurillon PM configurations can vary by season and region; the pre‑loved market is ideal for locating exact finishes like this black Taurillon leather with gold‑tone hardware.

Q: What accessories are included and how do you authenticate?
A: Included items are listed under “Accessories.” For this piece, we note a padlock, key and detachable shoulder strap. Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, assessing materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, date code/microchip and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell.
