Q: What is the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date 34mm Ref. 1501 (1971)?
A: It’s a vintage, Swiss‑made automatic Rolex with a 34mm stainless steel Oyster case, a blue textured “rare” dial with date and Cyclops magnifier, an engine‑turned bezel, and a stainless steel Oyster bracelet. The 34mm size offers a refined, unisex profile ideal for everyday wear.

Q: Which movement does it use, and does it have a quickset date?
A: OP Date models of this era typically house a Rolex 15xx series automatic calibre (often the 1575 for date versions). Most 1971 examples do not have a quickset date. We can verify the exact calibre in this watch on request.

Q: How do I wind and set the time/date safely on a non‑quickset Rolex?
A: Unscrew the crown anti‑clockwise. Position 1: manual wind (about 20–40 turns if stopped). Position 2: set the time. Advance the date by rolling the hands past midnight (repeat as needed). Avoid changing the date between roughly 8pm and 2am. When finished, push the crown in and screw it down firmly to help maintain moisture resistance.

Q: Is it water‑resistant and can I swim with it?
A: The Oyster case was originally rated to 100m, but water resistance on vintage watches cannot be guaranteed without recent servicing and pressure testing. Treat it as splash‑resistant at best; avoid swimming or showering unless gaskets have been replaced and the watch has been professionally tested. Always keep the crown fully screwed down if near moisture.

Q: Does it have a sapphire or acrylic crystal?
A: Most OP Date models from around 1971 feature an acrylic crystal with Rolex’s Cyclops lens. Acrylic offers a warm vintage look and can be lightly polished to reduce fine marks; avoid abrasive cleaners. We can confirm the crystal type on this specific watch upon request.

Q: What is an engine‑turned bezel and how does it compare to fluted or smooth?
A: An engine‑turned bezel has crisp, machined patterns that create a subtle, tool‑like texture—less reflective than a fluted bezel and more detailed than a smooth bezel. It’s a distinctive vintage design element often seen on mid‑century Oyster Perpetual Date references like the 1501.

Q: Will it fit my wrist, and can the bracelet be resized or swapped for a strap?
A: This piece fits a wrist up to approximately 17cm. We can size the Oyster bracelet prior to dispatch; adding length may require sourcing compatible vintage links. Many 34mm OP Date references use 19mm lugs—if you prefer a leather or fabric strap, choose the correct lug width and suitable end‑links; contact us for options.

Q: What accuracy, power reserve and service interval should I expect?
A: A healthy vintage 15xx calibre typically offers around 40–48 hours of power reserve and solid daily accuracy, though performance varies with age and service history. A routine service every 5–10 years is sensible. Keep the watch away from strong magnets and have it checked if you notice running fast/slow or any condensation.

Q: How can I confirm the reference, serial and production year, and is the dial original?
A: The reference is usually stamped between the lugs at 12 o’clock and the serial at 6 o’clock (bracelet removal required). This listing notes 1971 and serial 2758823; we can verify these details and provide additional photos. We carefully inspect dial printing and markers; on request, we’ll share macro images and comment on the originality of the rare blue textured dial for this exact watch.

We offer free, fully insured DHL shipping, a 14‑day return policy, and 0% customs fees for EU buyers; contact us for any specific delivery or warranty questions.
