Q: What is the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date 34mm Ref 1500 with the rare mosaic dial?
A: It’s a vintage, Swiss‑made automatic Rolex from around 1970 (serial 2560388) with a 34mm stainless‑steel Oyster case, a date window at 3 o’clock with the Cyclops magnifier, and a stainless‑steel bracelet. This example features a rare blue mosaic‑pattern dial, making it particularly desirable to collectors. It’s delivered with no accessories and is in very good overall condition with light, age‑appropriate wear.

Q: What is a “mosaic” dial and why is it special?
A: The mosaic dial is a textured, patterned dial that creates a distinctive tiled effect, sometimes discussed alongside other vintage Rolex texture styles. Original mosaic dials are notably scarce, and the blue colour adds to collectability. As with any vintage dial, light patina or tone variation is normal. We can provide close‑up photos and help confirm originality for this specific piece on request.

Q: Which movement does the Ref 1500 typically use, and does it have a quickset date?
A: Most Ref 1500 models from this era house a Rolex 15xx series automatic calibre (commonly the 1575 for date versions). These are robust, well‑regarded movements. Many 1970 examples do not have a quickset date; we’re happy to verify the exact calibre and date‑setting type in this watch on request.

Q: Is it water‑resistant and can I swim with it?
A: The Oyster case was originally rated to 100 metres, but water resistance on vintage watches cannot be guaranteed without recent servicing and pressure testing. We recommend avoiding swimming or showering unless the gaskets have been replaced and the watch has been professionally tested. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before any exposure to moisture.

Q: How do I set the time and date on a non‑quickset Oyster Perpetual Date?
A: Unscrew the crown anti‑clockwise. Position 1: wind the watch (about 20–40 turns if it has stopped). Position 2: set the time. Advance the date by moving the hands past midnight (repeat as needed to reach the correct date). Avoid changing the date between roughly 8pm and 2am. When finished, push the crown in and screw it down firmly. If your specific movement has quickset, use the intermediate crown position to set the date directly.

Q: Does this 1970 model have an acrylic or sapphire crystal?
A: Most Ref 1500 watches from around 1970 feature an acrylic crystal with the Cyclops date magnifier; later models moved to sapphire. We can confirm the crystal type on this exact piece upon request.

Q: Will the bracelet fit my wrist, and can it be resized?
A: The listed bracelet length is approximately 18cm. We can size the bracelet prior to dispatch, and additional links may be sourced subject to availability. Many Ref 1500 cases use a 19mm lug width; straps or alternate bracelets should match the correct lug width and end‑link type. Share your wrist measurement and we’ll advise options.

Q: Is the 34mm size suitable for my wrist and is it unisex?
A: 34mm offers a refined, vintage‑proportion look that suits many small to medium wrists and wears well as a unisex piece. On larger wrists, it gives a classic, understated presence compared to modern, larger cases—fit is a matter of personal preference.

Q: What accuracy and service interval should I expect?
A: A healthy vintage Rolex should keep good time, though performance varies with age and service history. A routine service every 5–10 years is generally recommended, or sooner if accuracy or water resistance is a concern. Keep the watch away from strong magnets, wipe it with a soft, dry microfibre cloth after wear, and have seals checked if moisture resistance matters.
