Q: Is this Van Cleef & Arpels Perlée Couleurs Carnelian necklace authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it solid gold or plated?
A: This necklace is crafted in solid 18‑carat rose gold with a carnelian cabochon set in the beaded Perlée surround. It is fine jewellery, not gold‑plated fashion metal.

Q: What are the measurements and how will it sit when worn?
A: The chain measures approximately 42 cm in perimeter and the pendant is about 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm. At 42 cm, it typically sits around the collarbone on most wearers. If you would like the exact drop length or gram weight, contact us and we will confirm.

Q: How does it fasten and is the clasp secure?
A: It features a fine link chain with a lobster clasp. Always ensure the clasp is fully closed before wear; a jeweller can add a short safety chain or extender on request.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a VCA pendant?
A: Van Cleef & Arpels pieces typically bear the maker’s signature ("Van Cleef & Arpels" or "VCA"), a fineness mark such as "750/Au750" for 18‑carat gold and a unique serial number. Stamps are usually on the chain tag and/or near the pendant; French assay marks may also be present. Our close‑up photos show the stamps on this piece.

Q: Is carnelian durable for everyday wear?
A: Carnelian is a variety of chalcedony quartz with a hardness of roughly 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, making it suitable for regular wear with sensible care. Avoid sharp knocks, abrasive contact and hard impacts.

Q: How should I clean and care for the rose gold and carnelian?
A: Keep it dry and away from perfume, lotions, hairspray and hand sanitiser. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For a deeper clean, use a little mild soap in lukewarm water, rinse, then pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaning for gemstone‑set pieces. Store it separately in a soft pouch or box to prevent scratches.

Q: Can I wear it in the shower, swimming or to the gym? Can I sleep in it?
A: We recommend removing fine jewellery before showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping. Moisture, chemicals and physical stress can dull the finish, strain delicate chains and compromise clasps over time.

Q: Can the chain length be adjusted or the clasp replaced?
A: A competent jeweller can add a short extender, replace or adjust the clasp and check jump rings. We do not offer in‑house modifications; alterations may affect originality and resale value. Contact us if you’d like recommendations for trusted specialists.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This necklace is in Very Good Condition with light trace of use. This listing includes no accessories unless specifically shown or stated. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
