Q: What typically fits inside the Balenciaga First?
A: With approximate measurements of 32 × 17 × 5 cm, it holds daily essentials such as a smartphone, compact wallet, keys, slim sunglasses, and a small cosmetics pouch. It is not designed to fit A4 documents, a laptop, or a full‑size tablet comfortably.

Q: Can the strap be worn crossbody?
A: The detachable strap on this model has an approximate drop of 20 cm and is intended for shoulder carry rather than true crossbody. Many find it sits too high when worn crossbody; hand and shoulder carry are the most comfortable options.

Q: How does the First compare to the City bag?
A: The First is the smaller, slimmer member of Balenciaga’s Motorcycle family, offering a light, compact carry for essentials. The City is larger and deeper with greater capacity and a roomier interior. If you mainly carry the basics, the First is ideal; if you need to add a water bottle, larger diary or tablet, the City is a better choice.

Q: What leather and hardware does this piece have?
A: This piece features pink distressed leather with aged brass‑tone hardware, characteristic of Balenciaga’s classic Motorcycle aesthetic. Over the years the First has been produced in both distressed lambskin and, in earlier seasons, goatskin; the intentionally crinkled finish and light weight are part of the design.

Q: Is this style still made today?
A: Balenciaga currently offers a modern re‑edition called the Le City First with similar proportions and details. This item is a vintage example of the original First silhouette and will feel a touch smaller and slimmer than some contemporary reissues.

Q: Does this item include a mirror or dust bag?
A: Everything included is listed in the product information on this page. For this piece, a detachable shoulder strap is included; if an item (such as a mirror or dust bag) is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: How should I care for the distressed leather?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and allow to air‑dry away from heat. Avoid heavy conditioners, oils, or alcohol‑based cleaners. Store loosely stuffed in a breathable dust bag to help maintain shape, and keep away from prolonged light and dark denim to minimise colour transfer. Take care not to snag the leather tassels or zipper pulls.

Q: Are the handles comfortable to carry?
A: Yes. The dual rolled handles with whipstitch detailing have an approximate 12 cm drop, making them comfortable in hand or on the crook of the arm; the strap offers an easy shoulder option for hands‑free moments.

Q: How is the condition of this specific piece?
A: Overall good vintage condition. The leather shows a few marks and the handles have some darkening from normal wear; the interior has light use with some marks and a slight vintage odour; and the hardware shows scratches and some dullness. Please review the photos and condition notes for full details.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: All items at A Retro Tale undergo multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, including materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, and date coding where present. We stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell and can provide additional details on request.
