Q: Are these earrings clip-on or for pierced ears?
A: They are clip-on earrings with a hinged back. They can be worn comfortably whether or not you have pierced ears; simply position on the lobe and close the clip until snug.

Q: What are the measurements?
A: Approx. 1.5 cm high × 2 cm wide × 0.5 cm deep. Please allow minor variations due to how vintage pieces are measured.

Q: What are they made of? Are they solid silver?
A: These are silver-tone Chanel costume jewellery earrings. Silver-tone refers to the colour/finish, not solid sterling silver. Most vintage Chanel clip-ons are crafted from base metal alloys with a plated finish, rather than precious metal. Fine jewellery Chanel pieces are made with precious metals, but this pair is costume jewellery.

Q: Will clip-on earrings hurt or feel tight? How can I improve comfort?
A: Fit varies by ear shape. If they feel tight, adding silicone/foam comfort pads and having a jeweller fine-tune the clip tension usually helps. Start with shorter wear times and remove if you feel pressure; a correctly adjusted clip should feel secure but not pinch.

Q: Can these be converted to pierced earrings?
A: Some clip-ons can be converted by a skilled jeweller, but modification may affect the original plating, structure, and collectability of vintage pieces. If you choose to convert, consult a professional and note that alterations are at the owner’s risk.

Q: How should I care for silver-tone Chanel costume jewellery?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. Avoid water, perfume, lotions and prolonged humidity or sunlight. Store separately in a soft pouch or box to minimise scratches and finish wear.

Q: How can I read the Chanel hallmark on vintage earrings?
A: Many vintage pairs have a small plaque on the reverse stamped CHANEL and Made in France or Italy, sometimes with a season code (for example 01C for Spring 2001). Stamps and their placement vary by era, and some early pieces may be unsigned. This pair is labelled Made in France.

Q: Are these earrings nickel-free or hypoallergenic?
A: Chanel does not publish detailed metal composition for vintage costume jewellery. Because plated base metals can contain small amounts of nickel, individuals with sensitivities should use barrier pads and test for short periods, or opt for fine jewellery in precious metals if you have known allergies.

Q: What accessories are included?
A: As listed under Accessories, no accessories are included with this pair. Everything provided is always itemised on the product page; please contact us if you would like clarification.

Q: How do you authenticate these Chanel earrings?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully vetted by our in-house experts using multi-point checks of materials, construction, hardware and stamps. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can share additional photos or details on request.
