Q: Are these Chanel earrings authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously authenticated by our in‑house experts before listing. Vintage Chanel earrings typically feature maker’s marks or plaques on the reverse; if you’d like close‑ups of stamps, we are happy to provide additional photos.

Q: What material are they made of—are they solid silver?
A: These are Chanel costume jewellery earrings in a silver‑toned finish. Chanel costume pieces are usually crafted from quality base metals with precious‑metal plating and may feature glass, crystal or resin details. They are not solid sterling silver unless explicitly stated.

Q: Are they clip‑on or for pierced ears?
A: This pair has clip‑on closures, making them suitable for non‑pierced ears. Many vintage Chanel Coco Mark styles were produced as clip‑ons.

Q: Are they comfortable or heavy to wear?
A: Given their size (approx. 2.5 × 1.3 × 1.5 cm), most wearers find them comfortable for regular wear. Comfort is individual; adding silicone pads to the clips and ensuring the clip tension is correctly adjusted can improve comfort and grip.

Q: Can the clip tension be adjusted?
A: Yes—clip mechanisms can usually be tightened or loosened slightly for a better fit. Adjust very gently, or ask a jeweller to fine‑tune them. Cushion pads can also reduce pressure on the lobes and add stability.

Q: Can these clip‑ons be converted to posts for pierced ears?
A: Some jewellers offer conversions, but altering vintage Chanel earrings can affect collectability and may compromise the plating or finish. We sell vintage pieces as collected and do not perform conversions; if you choose to convert, consult a specialist first.

Q: How should I care for the silver‑tone finish?
A: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, lotions, and moisture; do not use silver dips, abrasive polishes, or ultrasonic cleaners, as these can damage plating and decorative elements. Store them in their box or a soft pouch, separately from other pieces.

Q: Will the finish tarnish or discolour over time?
A: Plated finishes can dull with exposure to oils, humidity, and chemicals. Regular gentle wiping and careful storage help preserve the shine. If plating wears, some specialist workshops can re‑plate costume jewellery, but this is a discretionary third‑party service and may alter originality.

Q: Are they suitable for sensitive ears or nickel allergies?
A: As with most costume jewellery, components may include base metals and could contain nickel. Because they are clip‑ons, there is no post through the ear, but the metal may still contact the skin. If you are sensitive, consider using barrier pads on the clips and limit wear time.

Q: How can I date vintage Chanel earrings—what stamps should I expect?
A: Many vintage pieces carry a small plaque on the back with CHANEL and, on later styles, a year/season code (from the early 1990s onwards). Earlier plaques differ by era. Stamps alone aren’t definitive; weight, construction and finish should be evaluated together. We can share detailed images on request.

Q: What’s included with this item?
A: This pair comes with a Chanel box. All inclusions are listed under Accessories on this page.
