Q: Is this Chanel Coco Mark Pearl Brooch authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Are the pearls real and is the metal solid silver?
A: Chanel costume jewellery is typically crafted from plated base metal with glass/resin “faux” pearls and decorative finishes. This piece features a white enamel base, faux pearl embellishments, silver‑tone hardware and a dangling CC charm. It is not solid sterling silver or fine jewellery unless explicitly stated. If you’d like us to confirm any specific composition details from the stamps or construction, just ask.

Q: How big is it and will it feel heavy on clothing?
A: The brooch measures approximately 8.5 cm (height) x 6.5 cm (width) x 1.0 cm (depth). It has a statement presence suitable for coats and blazers. If you’d like the gram weight or a photo on model for scale, message us and we’ll provide it.

Q: How does it fasten and how can I keep it secure?
A: It has a traditional pin closure. For extra security, consider adding a small locking pin back/stopper or a brooch backing disc on the inside of the garment to stabilise the pin and protect fabric. Always attach through sturdier weaves when possible and avoid forcing the pin through very tight or dense materials.

Q: Can I wear it on coats, knitwear, scarves or handbags?
A: Yes—brooches look great on structured fabrics like wool coats, blazers, denim and thicker knits. For delicate fabrics (silk, fine gauge knits), test in an inconspicuous spot first and use a backing disc to prevent pulls. On handbags, pin through a reinforced area or strap to minimise marks on leather.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a vintage Chanel brooch?
A: Many vintage Chanel brooches carry an oval plaque stamped CHANEL, often “Made in France/Italy,” and, depending on era, a season/date code around the CC logo. Format and placement vary by period. Our listing notes France; please review the close‑up photos for any plaques or stamps present on this piece.

Q: Is it nickel‑free and suitable for sensitive skin?
A: Fashion jewellery alloys may contain nickel. If you have sensitivities, we recommend wearing the brooch over clothing (so it doesn’t touch skin), using a clear barrier on contact points, and avoiding prolonged moisture. Discontinue use if irritation occurs and contact us for guidance.

Q: How should I care for the enamel, faux pearls and silver‑tone plating?
A: Keep the brooch dry and away from perfume, hairspray, lotions and hand sanitiser. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth; use a dry cotton bud around enamel edges and faux pearls. Do not soak, use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical dips. Store it separately in a pouch/box, away from humidity and direct sunlight, to preserve the finish and prevent chipping.

Q: Can it be repaired, replated or converted to a pendant?
A: A competent jeweller can often tighten/straighten a pin, replace a catch, or undertake careful replating if needed. Brooch‑to‑pendant converters also allow you to wear it as a necklace without permanent alteration. We don’t offer in‑house modifications, but we can recommend reputable specialists. Note that alterations may affect originality and future resale value.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This vintage brooch is in Good Condition with light signs of wear consistent with age unless noted otherwise. No accessories are included unless specifically shown or listed—this item comes with no accessories. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
