Q: What is the Hermès Carré 42 ‘Robe du Soir’ Silk Scarf?
A: It is a compact square Hermès scarf crafted from 100% silk, featuring Florence Manlik’s ‘Robe du Soir’ motif—a stylised portrait of a horse created from cords and braids. The design debuted in 2018 and has appeared across different Hermès scarf formats.

Q: What are the dimensions of this piece and how does it compare to other Hermès squares?
A: This scarf measures approximately 42 x 42 cm. Hermès pocket squares are often described as “45” but can measure around 42 cm due to the hand‑rolled hems; slight variations are normal from piece to piece.

Q: Is the Carré 42 size versatile and unisex?
A: Yes. The 42 cm format works well as a jacket pocket square, a neat neckerchief, a hair ribbon or headband, a wrist wrap, or tied to a bag handle. Its scale and design make it suitable for all genders and a wide range of styles.

Q: What is included with this specific item?
A: This listing comes with the original Hermès box and tag, as shown in the Accessories section and photos.

Q: What is the condition of this pre‑owned piece?
A: It is described as Like New with only a light trace of use. Please review the images and condition notes for the most accurate representation.

Q: How should I care for the silk?
A: We recommend professional dry cleaning. Keep the scarf away from water, rain, perfumes, and cosmetics; store it flat or loosely rolled, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Do not leave it tightly knotted for long periods to prevent creases.

Q: Can I hand‑wash it at home?
A: Some collectors carefully hand‑wash silk at their own risk, but to preserve the hand‑rolled hems, colour, and resale value, A Retro Tale advises professional cleaning only.

Q: How do I remove creases safely?
A: Light creases may relax with gentle airing. For stubborn creases, use a cool iron on the reverse with a pressing cloth, avoiding direct pressure on the rolled hems—or entrust to a professional cleaner.

Q: How do you verify authenticity?
A: Authentic Hermès scarves feature hand‑rolled hems stitched toward the front (printed side), crisp and well‑registered printing, the “Hermès Paris” signature within the design, and often the artist’s signature and a care label. Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous multi‑point authentication.

Q: Where is this scarf made?
A: It is made in France, consistent with Hermès’s long‑standing silk scarf production heritage.
