Q: How long is the chain and where will it sit when worn?
A: The chain measures approximately 88 cm in total length (often called opera length). On most wearers it falls around the bust or mid‑torso, creating an elongated line. Fit varies by height and build.

Q: Can I adjust the length or wear it doubled?
A: The lobster clasp may be fastened to a lower link to shorten slightly, depending on the chain design. At 88 cm it can also be doubled into two strands of about 44 cm for a layered look. For a permanent change, a professional jeweller can remove links to shorten the chain.

Q: Is this solid gold?
A: No. It is described as gold‑toned metal rather than solid gold. Treat it like plated fashion jewellery to preserve the finish.

Q: How should I clean and care for a gold‑toned necklace?
A: After each wear, wipe gently with a soft, dry, non‑abrasive cloth. If needed, use a barely damp cloth with a drop of mild soap and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive polishes, ultrasonic cleaners, and contact with perfumes, lotions, or household chemicals. Store it separately in its box, away from humidity and direct sunlight.

Q: Can I shower, swim or exercise while wearing it?
A: This is not recommended. Water, soap, chlorine, salt and sweat can accelerate wear to gold‑tone finishes and cause dullness or tarnish over time. Remove the necklace before bathing, swimming or workouts.

Q: Will it tarnish or change colour over time?
A: Fashion jewellery with a plated or gold‑tone finish can gradually dull or show tarnish with regular wear, especially if exposed to moisture, fragrance or lotions. Good after‑care and dry storage slow this process. If desired in future, a jeweller can professionally re‑finish or re‑plate the piece.

Q: Is it nickel‑free and suitable for sensitive skin?
A: The exact metal composition for this vintage piece is not specified, so we cannot guarantee it is nickel‑free. Modern regulations limit nickel release in jewellery sold in the EU/UK, but individual sensitivities vary. If you have a known allergy, consider wearing it over clothing, doing a brief patch test, or choosing solid‑gold or verified nickel‑free options.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: The original box is included. Everything that comes with the piece is listed under the product information section on this page.

Q: What is the condition?
A: Very Good overall, with gentle signs of wear consistent with age; the hardware remains shiny with light scratches. Please review the photos for the most accurate view and contact us if you would like a video.

Q: How do you authenticate it?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully examined by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, construction, stamping and logos. We stand behind the authenticity of all pieces and can provide additional images or details on request.
