Q: How big is the brooch and where does it sit best?
A: It measures approximately 5 × 3.5 × 0.4 cm. The size works well on jacket lapels, structured knitwear and coats. For very delicate fabrics like fine silk, consider pinning through a seam, adding a small felt backing on the inside, or using a magnetic brooch converter to avoid holes.

Q: Is this piece vintage and how can Saint Laurent stamps help date it?
A: Yes—this is a vintage Saint Laurent brooch. As a general guide, pieces stamped “Saint Laurent Paris” are modern (post‑2012), while vintage examples typically show the YSL monogram or “Yves Saint Laurent” and often “Made in France.” Stamps vary by era and model, so please check our photos for the exact stamp on this piece.

Q: What is it made of and will it tarnish?
A: It is crafted in gold‑tone metal with clear rhinestones. Saint Laurent brooches are commonly made from plated base metal, often brass. Plating can dull with exposure to moisture, perfume or hairspray—wipe with a soft dry cloth after wear, avoid chemicals and water, and store separately to minimise rubbing.

Q: How secure is the clasp?
A: The brooch uses a traditional pin with a safety catch. Ensure the catch is fully engaged before wear. For thicker fabrics, guide the pin through multiple threads; for very delicate fabrics, use a brooch protector or a magnetic converter to reduce stress on the material.

Q: How should I clean the rhinestones safely?
A: Do not soak the brooch. Many vintage rhinestones are foil‑backed; moisture trapped behind the stones can cause clouding. Instead, use a barely damp cotton bud with a drop of mild soap to clean around settings, then dry immediately with a soft cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and alcohol‑based products.

Q: Will pinning damage my clothes?
A: Choose supportive fabrics (wool, tweed, denim, sturdy knits) and avoid very fine or loosely woven materials. Pin through a seam or doubled fabric where possible, and use a small felt backing or a magnetic converter to prevent stretching or holes.

Q: Can I wear it on scarves, hats or bags?
A: Yes. It looks elegant on scarf knots, berets and structured bags. Take care with leather—pin to a fabric lining or use a magnetic converter to avoid puncturing the leather surface.

Q: How do you authenticate this brooch?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is thoroughly authenticated by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, construction, stamps and logo typography, and overall design and proportions. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide additional details on request.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: As listed in the product information, this brooch includes a box. Any other inclusions would be listed there; if something isn’t mentioned, it is not included—feel free to contact us for confirmation.

Q: How should I store it?
A: Keep the pin closed and store the brooch in its box or a soft pouch, away from humidity and direct sunlight. Store it separately from other jewellery to prevent scratches and keep pressure off the rhinestones.
