Q: What is the length and how will it sit on the neck?
A: The necklace measures approximately 40 cm (about 16 in), which is a classic choker length that typically sits at the base of the neck. With its c. 0.5 cm tubular links, it offers a subtly chunky profile that works well worn alone or layered with longer chains.

Q: What does sterling silver (925) mean on a Tiffany necklace?
A: Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The 925 mark indicates this standard. Tiffany & Co. pioneered adoption of the .925 sterling standard in the United States in 1851. Vintage Tiffany pieces commonly bear hallmarks such as Tiffany & Co and 925, usually near the clasp or on an end link.

Q: Will sterling silver tarnish and how should I care for it?
A: Yes—tarnish is natural when silver is exposed to air, salt, sulphur compounds and certain chemicals. Wear it often, store it in a dry pouch, and clean with a soft polishing cloth; for deeper cleaning use a dedicated silver jewellery cleaner, then rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly. Avoid bleach and other strong chemicals as they accelerate tarnishing.

Q: Can I wear this necklace in the shower, pool or hot tub?
A: It’s best to remove sterling silver before bathing or swimming. Moisture, heat, soaps and chlorinated water can speed up tarnish and dull the finish. If it does get wet, rinse with clean water and dry completely before storing.

Q: What about the darker accents on the links?
A: The chain has deliberate darker, oxidised detailing within the texture. Take care not to over‑polish these areas, as heavy polishing can lighten or remove intentional oxidised finishes.

Q: Is Tiffany sterling silver hypoallergenic and nickel free?
A: Sterling silver is generally alloyed with copper rather than nickel and is a good option for most sensitive skin. That said, sensitivities vary by individual; if you have a severe nickel allergy, we recommend a brief wear test and keeping the piece free from fragranced lotions or sprays while you assess comfort.

Q: How secure is the clasp and can the length be adjusted?
A: This necklace closes with a lobster clasp for secure daily wear. Some length adjustments or extenders may be possible through a professional jeweller; however, altering a vintage piece can affect its originality and value, so proceed with care.

Q: Does this item come with the original box or accessories?
A: No. This piece is sold without accessories. Everything included is listed under Accessories; if a branded box or pouch is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: How do you authenticate this Tiffany piece?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously authenticated by our specialists using multi‑point checks of materials, construction and hallmarks. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide additional photographs or details on request.

Q: Is 40 cm suitable for layering and different neck sizes?
A: 40 cm is a classic choker length that layers beautifully with 45–50 cm and longer chains. For the best fit, cut a piece of string to 40 cm, place it around your neck and check where it falls before purchasing.
