Q: What are these earrings and when were they made?
A: Chanel Coco Mark Cambon earrings from 1999 in silver‑tone metal. They feature a CC logo stud with dangling Chanel and 31 Rue Cambon charms and fasten with a post back for pierced ears. Approximate size: 3 cm drop × 1.5 cm width.

Q: What does “31 Rue Cambon” refer to?
A: It references Chanel’s historic Paris address, home to the House’s couture salons and Coco Chanel’s famous mirrored staircase—an enduring emblem of the brand’s heritage.

Q: Are these solid silver?
A: No. They are crafted in silver‑tone metal typical of Chanel fashion jewellery, not solid sterling silver. The finish is plated over a base metal. To preserve the plating, avoid moisture, fragrance, lotions and abrasive cloths.

Q: Are they suitable for sensitive ears?
A: Vintage fashion jewellery can contain base‑metal alloys that may include nickel. If you have sensitivities, consider protective earring sleeves or alternative backings and discontinue wear if irritation occurs. For guaranteed nickel‑free options, consult a jeweller about medical‑grade or precious‑metal posts.

Q: Can I shower or swim with them on?
A: We do not recommend it. Water, heat, perfumes and cosmetics can cause discolouration or premature wear to plated finishes. Remove the earrings before bathing, swimming, exercising or applying products.

Q: How should I care for and store them?
A: Handle gently; put jewellery on last after fragrance and makeup; wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear; and store separately in a dry pouch or box away from sunlight and humidity.

Q: How are these earrings authenticated?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, construction, stamps/hallmarks and overall workmanship. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide extra photos or details on request.

Q: What hallmarks should I expect on late‑1990s Chanel earrings?
A: Many pieces from this era bear an oval cartouche on the reverse with CHANEL and the country of origin, plus a two‑digit year with a seasonal letter (for example, 99 P for Spring 1999 or 99 A for Autumn 1999). Placement and exact format can vary by design.

Q: Do boutiques repair or replace vintage costume earrings?
A: Chanel Client Care can advise on repair options, but availability for vintage fashion jewellery varies by location and age of the piece. Local professional jewellers can assist with safe cleaning or replacement backs if needed.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: This pair comes with a box. Everything included is listed under the product information section on this page; if something is not listed there, it is not included.
