Q: What is the Hermès Clipper Ref. CL4.210 in simple terms?
A: It is a petite 24 mm stainless‑steel Hermès Clipper with a white Arabic‑numeral dial, a date window at 3 o’clock and an H‑link bracelet. This example is from around 2005 and is a classic ladies’ size for everyday wear.

Q: Is this model quartz or automatic?
A: The CL4.210 is a quartz model powered by a Swiss battery‑operated movement, prized for accuracy and low maintenance compared with mechanical watches.

Q: What battery does it use and how long will it last?
A: CL4.210 pieces typically use a 1.55 V silver‑oxide cell such as 371 (SR920SW); in some cases a 395 may be specified by the case design. Typical battery life is about 2–4 years. Many ETA 955‑series movements feature an end‑of‑life indicator where the seconds hand jumps in two‑ to four‑second steps to signal a low battery. We recommend professional fitting to preserve gasket integrity.

Q: What is the water‑resistance, and can I swim with it?
A: When new, 24 mm Clipper quartz models like the CL4.210 were commonly rated around 30 metres. As this is a vintage watch, seals may have aged; treat it as splash‑resistant only unless a watchmaker has renewed the gaskets and pressure‑tested it. We do not recommend showering, swimming or submersion.

Q: What type of crystal does it have?
A: Most CL4.210 examples are fitted with a sapphire crystal for enhanced scratch resistance. Even with sapphire, avoid hard knocks and abrasive surfaces to keep the crystal pristine.

Q: Will it fit my wrist, and can the bracelet be resized?
A: In its current configuration it fits up to a 16.5 cm wrist. The H‑link bracelet can be resized by adding or removing links; most jewellers can assist. Extra links may be sourced separately on the pre‑owned market, subject to availability.

Q: Can I swap the bracelet for a leather strap?
A: The 24 mm Clipper uses model‑specific end‑links. Swapping to leather generally requires a Clipper‑compatible strap with the correct fittings; a watchmaker can advise on options and availability for this size.

Q: How do I set the time and date?
A: Gently pull the crown to the first click to quick‑set the date, and to the second click to set the time; push back in to restart. To protect the date mechanism, first move the hands away from midnight before using the quick‑set date.

Q: What is included with this item, and how is authenticity handled?
A: This watch comes with a box as listed under Accessories. Every piece at A Retro Tale is authenticated by our in‑house experts using detailed checks of materials, stamps, movement and serials; if something isn’t listed under Accessories, it is not included—please contact us if you would like us to confirm.
