Q: What typically fits inside the Alma PM?
A: With approximate measurements of 24 × 30 × 15.5 cm, it comfortably carries day‑to‑day essentials: a large smartphone, continental wallet, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft case, a small cosmetics pouch and an A5 diary. A compact 11‑inch tablet may fit without a bulky case; a small 330–500 ml bottle fits best laid horizontally. A4 documents generally do not lie flat due to the dome shape and curved zip opening. (Capacity guidance based on established Alma PM size references.)

Q: Will it fit A4 papers or a laptop?
A: A4 (29.7 × 21 cm) usually does not fit flat and risks curling at the top; placing it diagonally is possible but impractical. Slim tablets can work; 13‑inch laptops are not recommended for this size. (Based on common Alma PM dimensions and usage reviews.)

Q: Does this bag come with a strap, and can I wear it crossbody?
A: The classic Monogram Alma PM from this era is designed as a hand or crook‑of‑arm bag with dual rolled handles (approx. 8 cm drop) and no strap. Some later or alternative‑material editions (e.g., certain Epi/Vernis versions) were offered with strap attachments, but this specific listing includes no accessories and is not intended for crossbody wear.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior layout?
A: The Alma PM features a two‑way zip‑around top for secure closure. The interior is typically fabric/canvas‑lined with a single slip/patch pocket to organise small items. Minor layout variations exist by year; please refer to our photos for this exact piece.

Q: How durable is the Monogram canvas compared with the vachetta leather?
A: Louis Vuitton’s coated canvas is robust and hard‑wearing for daily use, while the vachetta (natural, vegetable‑tanned) leather trim is untreated and will develop a honey patina. Vachetta is more sensitive to water, oils and colour transfer than the canvas, so a bit of mindful care keeps it looking its best.

Q: How should I care for the vachetta leather and hardware—especially with existing watermarks and patina?
A: Keep the bag away from heavy rain and prolonged sunlight; be mindful of dark denim or dyed fabrics. If lightly wet, blot (don’t rub) with a soft cloth and allow to air‑dry away from heat. For older watermarks or uneven patina, we recommend consulting a reputable luxury leather specialist rather than aggressive DIY methods. Use a high‑quality neutral conditioner very sparingly and only after testing on a discreet area. Store the bag upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag; pad the handles/zip to prevent impressions, and avoid long‑term hanging to protect the structure and hardware finish.

Q: What does the date code FL0031 mean?
A: “FL” indicates manufacture in France. In the pre‑2007 format, the 1st and 3rd digits show the month and the 2nd and 4th digits show the year—so “0031” decodes to March 2001. Note: from around 2021, Louis Vuitton transitioned from visible date codes to embedded microchips; for earlier pieces like this one, a date code is one authentication data point among many.

Q: Where is the date code usually found on an Alma PM?
A: Placement varies by year, but it’s often on a small leather tab inside the pocket or embossed along an interior seam. If you’d like, we can provide close‑up photos of the code location on this exact bag.

Q: Are padlock, keys or a clochette included?
A: Some Alma PMs originally came with a padlock and keys in a clochette. For this listing, “Accessories” states no accessories—so a lock, keys or clochette are not included with this piece.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate this item?
A: Every piece undergoes multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, examining materials (canvas and vachetta), stitching, hardware engravings, heat‑stamps, date code format/placement and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of every item we sell.
