Q: Are these earrings for pierced ears?
A: No. This pair features a classic clip-on closure, so they can be worn comfortably without pierced ears. Many collectors with pierced ears also enjoy clip-ons for their secure fit and vintage look.

Q: What are the measurements and how do they sit on the ear?
A: Approx. 5 cm in height, 2 cm in width and 1 cm in depth. They offer a statement drop without being overly long, with the clip sitting centred on the lobe and the beads dangling just below it.

Q: What are they made of, and are the pearls real?
A: The earrings are crafted in black resin with gold‑tone hardware, embellished with the CC logo and a pink crystal, and finished with dangling black and faux pearl beads. The pearls are imitation, as is typical of Chanel costume jewellery from this era.

Q: Are gold‑tone Chanel earrings solid gold?
A: No. Gold‑tone indicates a plated finish over a base metal rather than solid gold. This is standard for Chanel costume jewellery and helps achieve the look while keeping the piece lightweight.

Q: How comfortable and secure are the clip‑ons?
A: Chanel clip‑ons are designed to grip gently yet securely. For added comfort, position the clip mid‑lobe, use silicone or foam comfort pads if needed, and avoid overtightening vintage hinges. A professional jeweller can fine‑tune clip tension. If you experience pressure, take short breaks during extended wear.

Q: Can these be converted to pierced earrings?
A: Conversion is possible through a skilled jeweller, but it permanently alters the piece and may reduce its collector value. We generally recommend keeping vintage Chanel earrings original; clip‑on comfort pads or non‑permanent converters are good alternatives.

Q: How should I care for the resin, faux pearls and gold‑tone finish?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. Apply perfume, hairspray and lotions before putting them on, and avoid contact with water, humidity and cleaning chemicals. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners. Store them separately in a soft pouch away from direct light to preserve the finish and pearl coating.

Q: How can I tell the age and authenticity of Chanel earrings?
A: Many vintage Chanel earrings have an oval signature plaque on the back. From 1993 onwards, stamps typically include the year and season code; earlier plaques may show collection numbers. Every piece at A Retro Tale is vetted by our experts, and we can share close‑up photos of stamps on request.

Q: Are these nickel‑free?
A: As with most vintage costume jewellery, the exact alloy cannot be guaranteed and may contain trace nickel beneath the plating. If you have metal sensitivities, consider using barrier pads or clear protective coatings and limit wear time. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: The earrings are sold as shown with no accessories (no box or authenticity card). Their external condition is very good, with only minor marks on hardware as noted.
