Q: Are these earrings pierced or clip-on?
A: They are clip-on earrings with hinged clip backs, suitable for both non-pierced and pierced ears.

Q: How big are they and how do they wear on the ear?
A: They measure approximately 6 cm in height, 3 cm in width and 0.5 cm in depth. As a dangling style, they make a statement; clip-backs help distribute weight, and comfort pads can be added if you have sensitive lobes.

Q: What are they made of? Are they real gold?
A: These are vintage Chanel costume jewellery earrings in gold-tone metal. They are not solid gold; like most Chanel costume pieces, they should be treated as fashion jewellery with careful wear and storage.

Q: How should I care for vintage Chanel costume jewellery?
A: Apply fragrance and make-up before putting them on, avoid water, heat and humidity, and remove before swimming, showering, exercising or sleeping. Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wear and store individually in a dry pouch away from direct sunlight.

Q: How can I keep clip-ons comfortable and secure for longer wear?
A: The fit should be snug but not painful. Add silicone or foam comfort pads to cushion pressure and improve grip. If clips feel too tight or loose, a professional jeweller can adjust tension; avoid repeatedly bending the clip yourself.

Q: Can these clip-on earrings be converted for pierced ears?
A: A jeweller can sometimes convert clip-ons to posts, but alterations may change the look, compromise the structure, and can affect collectability and resale value. We recommend enjoying them as designed unless you are certain you want a permanent modification.

Q: How can I tell vintage Chanel earrings are authentic?
A: Authentic pieces typically have a round or oval signature plate on the reverse stamped with Chanel and either Made in France or Made in Italy; many from the late 1980s onward include season codes (for example, 01C for Spring 2001). Look for crisp logo execution, quality construction and even plating. Every item at A Retro Tale is thoroughly authenticated by our experts.

Q: What accessories are included with this pair?
A: As listed, no accessories are included. The earrings are sold as shown without a Chanel box or card.

Q: What if I notice green residue on vintage costume jewellery?
A: That greenish build-up is often verdigris caused by moisture reacting with base metals. Do not soak the earrings; gently dry-wipe and consult a professional if needed. Prevent it by keeping pieces dry, avoiding chemicals and storing with a small desiccant in a breathable pouch.
