Q: What is the Hermès Carré 45 (also called a gavroche)?
A: It is Hermès’ small square silk scarf format in silk twill with hand‑rolled edges, measuring approximately 45 x 45 cm. Compact and versatile, it works as a neckerchief, in the hair, on a bag handle or as a pocket square.

Q: What does the Voitures en Équilibre motif depict?
A: The design playfully balances vehicles and wheels in motion, echoing Hermès’ long association with travel and carriage-making. It has been issued in multiple sizes and colourways, including this 45 cm silk version.

Q: Is the Carré 45 unisex?
A: Yes. Hermès scarves are designed for everyone. The 45 cm size is ideal as a neckerchief, wrist wrap or pocket square regardless of gender.

Q: How can I style this 45 cm scarf?
A: Try a classic neckerchief knot; fold diagonally as a bandana or headband; wrap around a ponytail; knot on a bag handle; or fold into a square for a suit pocket. Its smaller size makes quick ties neat and easy.

Q: How should I care for this silk scarf?
A: Hermès advises professional dry cleaning and avoiding rain or moisture, which can affect printed silk and the hand‑rolled edges. Store it flat or loosely folded in its box, away from direct sunlight, and allow perfume or cosmetics to dry before wearing.

Q: Can I hand‑wash it at home?
A: We recommend following Hermès’ guidance and using a trusted dry cleaner. Some owners choose to hand‑wash, but this may lead to colour run, shrinkage, or flattening of the rolled hem and is at your own discretion.

Q: Are the measurements exact?
A: As the edges are hand‑rolled and stitched, very slight variations are normal. The nominal size is about 45 x 45 cm.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: This piece includes its original Hermès box, as noted under Accessories. Everything included with the item is always listed on this page.

Q: How do you authenticate this scarf?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is checked by our in‑house experts using multi‑point verification of silk quality, print and colour, stitching, labels and brand signatures. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell.
