Q: How big is the Speedy 40 and how does it wear day to day?
A: This is the largest classic Speedy size, measuring about 40 × 25 × 20 cm. It is roomy yet soft and lightweight, making it ideal as an overnight or spacious daily bag. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: What typically fits inside the Speedy 40?
A: A 13–15 inch laptop in a slim sleeve, A4 documents, a jumper, a water bottle, a cosmetic pouch, long wallet and small essentials fit comfortably. For easier loading, place larger flat items first and use pouches to keep things organised.

Q: Does this bag have a shoulder strap?
A: This piece is the classic handheld Speedy 40 with dual rolled handles. Only the Bandoulière version includes D‑rings and a detachable shoulder strap; the classic Speedy is designed to be carried by hand or in the crook of the arm.

Q: Is the classic Speedy 40 still made by Louis Vuitton?
A: The classic (non‑Bandoulière) Speedy 40 has been reported discontinued in recent years, while the Bandoulière 40 remains available in current collections from time to time. Availability can vary by region and season on the primary market; vintage examples like this are sought after.

Q: Is the Speedy 40 suitable as cabin baggage or a personal item?
A: With its soft sides and 40 cm length, it usually fits in an overhead bin and may qualify as a personal item on some carriers. Airline rules differ, so please check your specific airline’s size limits before travelling.

Q: Does the Speedy 40 sag at the base? Should I use a base shaper or organiser?
A: The Speedy is intentionally unstructured and can develop a natural “slouch” when carried. If you prefer a more structured look, a removable base shaper or felt organiser can help; it’s a matter of personal preference and how you pack.

Q: How should I care for the Monogram canvas and Vachetta leather?
A: Keep the bag away from water, colour‑transfer and heat. Wipe the coated canvas with a soft, slightly damp light‑coloured cloth as needed, avoiding the leather trim. Vachetta is untreated, will develop a honey patina, and is sensitive to water and oils—blot any moisture immediately with a lint‑free cloth and allow to dry naturally. Store stuffed in a breathable cover, away from direct sunlight.

Q: The handles show a honey patina and some marks—are these normal?
A: Yes. Vachetta leather darkens over time and can show watermarks and scuffs with use. The characterful patina is a hallmark of vintage Louis Vuitton; please review the Condition notes for this specific piece.

Q: Where is the date code and what if I can’t find one?
A: On many vintage Speedy bags the date code is stamped on a small leather tab along a seam or near/under the interior pocket. Note that Louis Vuitton began moving to embedded microchips around early 2021, but vintage pieces may still have traditional date codes. Regardless, our in‑house experts authenticate every item using a multi‑point process.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything that comes with the bag is listed under product information on this page. If an item such as a padlock, keys, dust bag or box is not listed there, it is not included.
