Q: Is this Chanel Camellia Suede Chain Bag authentic and how do you verify it?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes a rigorous multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, including checks of materials, stitching, stamps, zips, hardware and serial number characteristics for the production era. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and are happy to provide additional photos or details on request.

Q: What is the approximate production year of this piece?
A: The serial number begins with a 9 (9036966), which corresponds to the 9‑series of Chanel date codes. This places manufacture around 2004–2005, consistent with Chanel’s 7‑digit sticker era before the brand moved to 8‑digit codes in 2005.

Q: What typically fits inside?
A: With approximate measurements of 29 × 16 × 8 cm, it comfortably carries a long wallet, smartphone, sunglasses, keys and small cosmetics. It will not fit A4 documents or a laptop. Capacity depends on how you pack, so please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Is the shoulder strap adjustable and how does it carry?
A: The bag features a single chain‑and‑leather shoulder strap with an approximate drop of 21 cm. It is designed for shoulder carry and is not adjustable; cross‑body wear is generally not intended on this model.

Q: What does the Camellia motif signify at Chanel?
A: The camellia is one of Chanel’s emblematic symbols and appears across the Maison’s creations. It is celebrated for its clean, geometric petals and timeless elegance, making Camellia‑patterned pieces highly recognisable within Chanel’s design language.

Q: How should I care for the suede exterior?
A: Suede benefits from gentle, regular care. Lightly brush the nap with a clean suede brush, avoid oil‑based or alcohol‑based cleaners, and consider a suede‑specific protector spray applied sparingly after patch‑testing in a discreet area. If the bag gets wet, blot (do not rub) with a soft cloth and allow it to air‑dry away from heat, then re‑brush the nap. For stains or deeper cleaning, we recommend consulting a professional handbag specialist familiar with luxury suede.

Q: Can I use it in the rain?
A: Suede is sensitive to moisture and can mark if exposed to rain. Protect in advance with a suitable suede protector, avoid prolonged exposure to wet weather, and carry an umbrella or slip the bag into a protective tote if caught in a shower. If water spots occur, blot gently and let the bag dry naturally before brushing the nap.

Q: Will the black suede transfer colour onto clothing?
A: As with most dark suedes, some dye transfer may occur, particularly against light‑coloured fabrics and in humid conditions. Pre‑treating with a suede protector and avoiding prolonged friction against pale garments will help minimise transfer. Likewise, be cautious of colour transfer from dark denim onto the bag.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed under the product information on this page. For this piece, the included item is the serial number tag. If an item such as a dust bag or card is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: Can Chanel repair or service a vintage bag like this?
A: Chanel offers after‑sales care and repair for leather goods through its CHANEL & moi programme via boutiques. Availability, scope and pricing of repairs depend on an in‑person assessment, and services may vary by region and the bag’s condition. We recommend contacting your nearest Chanel boutique for current options before undertaking any third‑party work.
