Q: What typically fits inside the Chanel Classic Velvet Chevron Single XL Flap?
A: With approximate dimensions of 35 × 23 × 10 cm, it comfortably holds a large smartphone, continental wallet, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft case, an A5 diary, a small cosmetics pouch and an 11‑inch tablet. A very slim 13‑inch laptop may slide in horizontally without a bulky sleeve, but we recommend avoiding overfilling to preserve the flap shape and velvet nap.

Q: Can I wear it crossbody and is the chain strap adjustable?
A: The chain strap is not adjustable. It can be worn doubled for a shorter shoulder carry or as a single chain for a longer shoulder or high crossbody fit on many frames. Strap drop can vary by production era; if it isn’t listed under Measurements, just ask and we’ll measure this exact piece for you.

Q: Is this bag vintage and what does the serial number mean?
A: Yes. The serial number 2912862 corresponds to Chanel’s 2‑series, produced approximately between 1991 and 1994. Serial codes indicate a production window rather than an exact month or day, and placement/format varies by era.

Q: Is the hardware 24‑carat gold‑plated?
A: Many Chanel bags made prior to late 2008 featured 24k gold‑plated hardware. Given this bag’s early‑1990s production, the gold‑tone hardware is very likely 24k plated. Plating and tone can vary slightly by batch; our close‑up photos show the exact finish on this piece.

Q: What’s the difference between a single‑flap and a double‑flap Classic, and which is this?
A: This is a single‑flap Classic. Single‑flap bags have one main flap over the compartment, which makes the interior a touch roomier and easier to load. Double‑flap versions include an additional interior flap for extra structure and organisation. Chanel largely standardised the Classic line to double flaps from around 2014, but many earlier vintages—like this one—are single flaps.

Q: How secure is the closure and how is the interior laid out?
A: The bag closes with the iconic CC turn‑lock. Inside, you’ll find a spacious main compartment with a zip pocket and slip pocket(s) for small valuables. As with most single‑flap Classics, there’s no secondary interior flap, which slightly increases usable capacity.

Q: How should I care for the velvet exterior?
A: Keep velvet away from moisture, oils, perfumes and prolonged friction. Be mindful of colour transfer from dark denim and dyed fabrics. After use, gently brush the nap in one direction with a very soft clothes brush to lift dust and restore pile; avoid adhesive lint rollers which can flatten fibres. Store upright, lightly padded, in a breathable dust bag, and place a soft cloth between the chain and flap to prevent pressure marks.

Q: What if the velvet gets lightly wet or shows pressure marks?
A: Blot immediately (do not rub) with a clean, soft cloth and allow to air‑dry away from heat. Once dry, lightly brush the nap to revive texture. For stubborn marks or stains, consult a luxury handbag specialist experienced with velvet—avoid household cleaners and excessive moisture.

Q: Can Chanel repair or service this vintage piece?
A: Chanel offers care and repair services via CHANEL & moi, subject to in‑boutique assessment and parts availability. Options for vintage items can vary by region. Reputable independent ateliers can also clean or perform minor restoration; we’re happy to advise typical routes for this bag.
