Q: What does “Coco Mark” refer to on this necklace?
A: “Coco Mark” is widely used to describe Chanel’s interlocking CC logo associated with Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. Many vintage designs also feature letter charms spelling CHANEL. This piece showcases CHANEL letter charms on a chunky curb chain; please refer to the photos for the exact motif and placement.

Q: Is this necklace solid gold?
A: No. It is crafted in gold‑tone metal (plated base metal), typical of Chanel’s costume jewellery. Chanel fine jewellery pieces are made from precious metals, whereas fashion/costume jewellery like this uses metal with a plated finish for its colour and shine.

Q: What is the length and where will it sit when worn?
A: The perimeter is approximately 60 cm, a matinee length that generally sits around the upper to mid‑chest on most wearers. It works well as a statement piece or layered with shorter chains.

Q: Can I adjust the length?
A: Minor adjustment is usually possible by fastening the lobster clasp to a different curb link to shorten slightly. For more flexibility, you can use a removable extender chain. Permanent alterations (adding/removing links) should be discussed with a trusted jeweller, as they may affect collectability.

Q: How should I care for gold‑tone Chanel costume jewellery?
A: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. If needed, use lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, then dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cloths, ultrasonic cleaners, and harsh chemicals. Put jewellery on last, after perfume, hairspray, and lotions, and store it separately in a soft pouch to minimise scratches.

Q: Can I shower or swim with it?
A: It’s best to remove gold‑plated or gold‑tone pieces before showering, swimming, or exercising. Water, soaps, chlorine, sweat, and steam can accelerate wear of the plating and dull the finish over time.

Q: Will the gold‑tone finish change colour over time?
A: Normal signs of age and wear are expected on vintage plated metal, such as micro‑scratches or slight colour change. This particular piece is graded in good condition with noted scratches and discolouration to hardware. Proper care and storage will help preserve its appearance.

Q: Is this suitable for sensitive skin or nickel allergies?
A: The exact alloy composition is not specified. Vintage costume jewellery may contain nickel, and EU limits on nickel release were strengthened in later years. If you have a known sensitivity, consider limiting direct skin contact, wearing it over clothing, or opting for nickel‑free precious metals. Discontinue wear if irritation occurs.

Q: What is included with my purchase?
A: Everything included is listed in the product information on this page. If items such as a dust bag or box are not listed there, they are not included. We are happy to confirm what is included on request.

A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully authenticated by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, construction, signatures/hallmarks, chain links and clasp style, and overall workmanship. On request, we can share additional close‑up photos of stamps and details for your review.
