Q: Is this Chanel Coco Mark No.19 No.5 Necklace authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is the significance of the No. 5 and No. 19 charms?
A: These numbers are iconic codes of the House of Chanel. No. 5 represents Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel’s lucky number and her legendary first fragrance (launched in 1921). No. 19 honours her birth date, August 19th, and is also the name of the celebrated perfume launched in 1970.

Q: What materials is it made from? Is it solid gold?
A: This is a piece of vintage costume jewellery crafted from gold‑tone plated metal and embellished with sparkling crystals. It is not solid gold. Please review the close‑up photos for a detailed view of the finish and stones.

Q: What are the measurements and how will it fit?
A: The necklace has a perimeter of approximately 42 cm. This length typically sits at the collarbone or high on the chest (often referred to as a princess or choker length), making it ideal for wearing against skin or over a high neckline.

Q: How does the clasp work?
A: This necklace fastens with a classic spring‑ring closure. It is a discreet and secure mechanism commonly used on fine and costume jewellery of this era.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect?
A: Vintage Chanel costume jewellery typically features a small oval hallmark plaque, often located near the clasp or on the back of a charm. It usually bears the ‘CHANEL’ stamp, ‘Made in France’, and a season/date code. Our photos show any marks present on this specific piece.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
A: Vintage costume jewellery alloys may contain nickel. If you have metal sensitivities, we recommend testing it for short periods or wearing it over clothing. Discontinue wear if irritation occurs.

Q: How should I care for the gold‑tone finish and crystals?
A: Keep the necklace dry and avoid direct contact with perfume, hairspray, lotions, and water, as these can dull the plating and damage the crystal settings. After wear, gently wipe it with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and store it in its box to prevent scratches and tangles.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This necklace is in Very Good Condition with light signs of wear possible unless noted otherwise. It includes the original box. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes, and conditions.
