Q: What is the Chanel Chocolate Bar bag?
A: The Chocolate Bar line is named after its rectangular quilt pattern and slim, east–west silhouette that rose to popularity in the early 2000s and is now discontinued. This piece is the Medium zip‑top shoulder version in black quilted patent leather with gold‑tone hardware, offered as a vintage item.

Q: Can I wear this bag crossbody?
A: It is designed as a short shoulder bag rather than a crossbody. The strap on this piece has an approximate 18 cm drop, which typically sits under the arm when worn on the shoulder.

Q: What typically fits inside the Medium Chocolate Bar bag?
A: Everyday essentials such as a smartphone, small wallet or cardholder, keys and a few cosmetics fit comfortably. It is not intended for tablets or water bottles. Please refer to the Measurements on this page (approx. 25 × 15 × 7 cm) to gauge your own items.

Q: Is the strap adjustable or removable?
A: No. This model features a single chain‑and‑leather interwoven shoulder strap that is not adjustable or detachable.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior like?
A: It has a top zip closure for secure access. The interior is fabric‑lined and includes one zipped pocket to organise smaller items.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything that comes with the bag is listed under product information. For this piece, a box is included. If an item such as a dust bag or authenticity card is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: How should I care for Chanel patent leather?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, non‑pilling cloth, avoid overfilling the bag, and keep it away from prolonged light, heat, and humidity. To minimise colour transfer, avoid extended contact between light and dark materials and store the bag upright in a breathable pouch with the chain wrapped to prevent imprints.

Q: Is colour transfer a risk with patent leather?
A: Yes. Patent’s glossy finish can pick up dye from dark fabrics (for example denim). Store separately and avoid long contact with contrasting colours; keep away from intense sunlight to preserve the finish over time.

Q: Can patent leather become sticky with age?
A: If stored in hot or humid conditions, patent finishes may turn tacky due to components migrating to the surface. Store in a cool, dry place and avoid household solvents; if stickiness occurs, seek professional care.

Q: How do you authenticate this vintage Chanel bag and what about serial numbers?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes a multi‑point inspection of materials, stitching, hardware, logo stamps and more. Many early‑2000s Chanel bags feature a 7‑ or 8‑digit serial sticker inside; an authenticity card may or may not be present. Details specific to this piece are documented by our team and available on request.
