Q: Are these authentic Chanel earrings?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is thoroughly authenticated by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks on materials, construction, signature plaques and overall workmanship. Stamps alone are not enough to determine authenticity, so we evaluate the piece as a whole. We stand behind the authenticity of every item we sell.

Q: What size are they and how do they sit on the ear?
A: They measure approximately 1.5 × 1.5 × 0.5 cm. The square, black resin design sits neatly on the lobe and the clip‑on backs hold the earrings in place without requiring pierced ears.

Q: Are clip‑on earrings comfortable for all‑day wear?
A: Comfort varies by ear shape and clip tension. For best results, add soft silicone or foam pads to cushion pressure, have a jeweller fine‑tune the clip tension if needed, and give your lobes short breaks during long wear. Avoid sleeping or exercising in clip‑ons to preserve comfort and the mechanism.

Q: Can these be converted for pierced ears?
A: Some jewellers can convert clip‑ons, but any alteration may mark the hardware and can reduce collectability and resale value. Chanel boutiques offer an adaptation service for fine jewellery only, not for costume pieces like these. If you choose to convert, ask a professional about reversible methods and understand this is at your own discretion.

Q: What are they made of, and are they nickel‑free?
A: Chanel costume jewellery is typically crafted from gold‑tone plated metal with elements such as resin or glass. Because mixed alloys are used, these pieces cannot be guaranteed nickel‑free. If you have sensitive skin, consider barrier pads on the clips, limit prolonged contact, and discontinue wear if irritation occurs.

Q: How should I care for Chanel costume jewellery?
A: Put the earrings on after applying fragrance, hair products and cosmetics; avoid water, humidity and prolonged sunlight; and wipe them with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Store them separately in a dry place to prevent scratches and tarnish. Avoid chemical cleaners and ultrasonic machines.

Q: How can I tell when these were made?
A: Many vintage Chanel earrings have a round or oval plaque on the back with CHANEL and the country of manufacture; later pieces may include a season code. Plaques and fonts changed by era, and a few early pieces were unmarked. Dating is best done by reviewing the plaque and overall construction together—our team can assist with extra photos on request.

Q: What exactly is included with this item?
A: Please check the product information section on this page for everything that comes with the earrings. If a Chanel box, dust bag or extra pads are not listed there, they are not included.

Q: What is the condition of this pair?
A: Very Good overall, with minor marks on the hardware and some scratches and discolouration on the metal consistent with gentle wear. Please review all photos for the most accurate view.
