Q: Do I need pierced ears to wear these?
A: No. These are clip-on earrings, so they can be worn comfortably without pierced ears. Many customers with pierced ears also enjoy clip-ons for comfort and versatility; adding soft silicone pads can increase comfort on sensitive lobes.

Q: Are they solid gold?
A: No. They are made from gold‑toned metal (plated costume jewellery), not solid gold. Chanel’s vintage clip-on styles are typically crafted in gilt metal with a gold‑tone finish rather than hallmarked precious metal.

Q: How big are they and will they feel heavy?
A: The approximate dimensions are 5 cm in height and 3 cm in width. Weight isn’t recorded for this piece, but at this size you may feel a gentle presence on the lobe; comfort pads can help distribute pressure during longer wear.

Q: How can I improve the fit of clip-on earrings if they feel tight or loose?
A: Small adjustments are possible. Adding silicone or foam comfort pads usually reduces pressure and improves grip. Some clip mechanisms have a small tension screw that a jeweller can fine‑tune. For spring or paddle clips without screws, a professional can carefully adjust tension—avoid forcing the hinge at home to prevent damage.

Q: Can clip-ons be converted to pierced/post backs?
A: A skilled jeweller can sometimes convert clip-ons to posts, but this may alter originality and reduce collectability. If you want a reversible option, non‑permanent converters are available; they allow wear as posts without altering the original fittings.

Q: How should I care for gold‑tone Chanel costume jewellery?
A: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Keep away from water, perfume, lotions and household cleaners to preserve the plating. Store separately in a cool, dry place—ideally in the box provided—to avoid scratches. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners or abrasive polishes. Put jewellery on last and remove first when dressing.

Q: Are these earrings nickel‑free?
A: We cannot guarantee they are nickel‑free. Vintage costume jewellery can contain mixed metal alloys that may include nickel. If you have sensitivities, consider using protective barrier pads or sleeves and limit prolonged skin contact.

Q: How are vintage Chanel earrings authenticated?
A: Vintage Chanel costume earrings typically feature a CHANEL signature stamp or small cartouche on the back; the style of stamp varies by era and there are no unique serial numbers on most vintage costume pieces. Every item at A Retro Tale is thoroughly checked by our specialists before sale, and we stand behind the authenticity of all pieces we offer.
