Q: What typically fits inside the Hermès Mini Kelly 20?
A: With approximate external measurements of 20 × 15 × 9 cm, it is designed for minimalist essentials: a small smartphone, slim cardholder, keys, and a lipstick or compact. Larger phones such as most Pro Max/Plus models generally do not fit, and standard phones may only fit diagonally depending on case thickness. Capacity will vary by how you pack—please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Can I wear this vintage Mini Kelly 20 crossbody?
A: Vintage Mini Kelly 20 bags usually have a shorter shoulder strap than the modern Mini Kelly II. They are best worn handheld or on the shoulder; crossbody typically sits high and may not work for most heights. Please check the strap length listed in the product information for this piece.

Q: What does “Sellier” mean on a Kelly, and how does it differ from “Retourne”?
A: Sellier construction has visible exterior stitching and sharp, structured edges, giving a crisp, formal look that holds its shape. Retourne is stitched inside‑out, with softer, rounded edges for a more relaxed feel. The Mini Kelly 20 in Sellier is especially structured and elegant for occasions.

Q: What is Box calf leather like, and how should I care for it?
A: Box calf is a smooth, fine‑grained heritage leather with a subtle gloss that develops a rich patina over time. It can show surface scratches, which tend to soften and blend with wear. Care by gently wiping with a soft, lint‑free cloth; keep away from water, oils, heat, and prolonged light; avoid overfilling; and store the bag loosely stuffed in a temperate, dry place when not in use.

Q: Does the Mini Kelly come with a lock, keys or clochette?
A: Mini Kelly bags were not produced with locks, keys or clochettes. Everything included with this piece is listed under the product information section; if an item isn’t listed there, it is not included.

Q: What does the blind stamp “O” in a circle indicate?
A: The Hermès date code “O” within a circle corresponds to the production year 1985, which aligns with this bag’s stated year stamp.

Q: Is the Mini Kelly 20 suitable for everyday use?
A: It is perfect for occasions and light carry. The structured Sellier silhouette and compact capacity make it ideal for evenings, events, and days when you only need essentials, rather than for heavy daily use.

Q: How can I minimise scratches on the leather and hardware during use and storage?
A: Avoid overfilling, ensure the turn‑lock area is free of grit before fastening, and handle hardware with clean, dry hands. During storage, keep the bag loosely stuffed to maintain shape and avoid pressure on the closure area. For cleaning or noticeable marks, seek professional care rather than commercial products.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts through multi‑point checks of leather, stitching, heat and blind stamps, hardware engravings, and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide further details on request.
