Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Monogram Ellipse PM?
A: The Ellipse PM comfortably carries daily essentials: a large smartphone (including most Pro/Max models), a compact wallet or cardholder, keys, lipstick, slim sunglasses in a soft sleeve and a small cosmetics pouch. An A5 diary/notebook usually fits. Due to the curved zip opening, bulkier items (A4 documents, 13-inch laptops) don’t fit well. Please refer to the Measurements on this page or contact us for tailored fit advice for this exact piece.

Q: Will it fit a tablet or laptop?
A: Small tablets (e.g., iPad mini) typically fit; standard 10–11-inch tablets may be a squeeze because of the curved opening and structured silhouette. Laptops are not recommended. Compare your device’s dimensions with the Measurements shown or ask us to perform a quick fit check for this item.

Q: Does it come with a shoulder strap? Can I wear it crossbody?
A: The Ellipse PM is a structured top-handle bag with dual rolled leather handles and no long strap. It’s designed for hand or crook‑of‑arm carry; shoulder carry is usually tight for most wearers given the approximately 10 cm handle drop listed under Measurements. Crossbody wear isn’t supported.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior layout?
A: It features a zip‑around closure that provides good everyday security. The interior is lined in brown canvas with one pocket, as shown and described in our listing photos. We recommend keeping the bag upright during commuting and placing small valuables in the interior pocket or a zip pouch for extra peace of mind.

Q: What materials and hardware does this piece have, and where is it made?
A: This bag is crafted in Louis Vuitton’s Monogram coated canvas with natural Vachetta leather trim, gold‑toned hardware and a brown textile lining. The interior stamp indicates France as the country of manufacture for this specific piece.

Q: How should I care for Monogram canvas and Vachetta leather?
A: Coated canvas is durable—wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh cleaners. Vachetta is an untreated leather that naturally develops a patina; keep it away from moisture, oils and prolonged sunlight, and be mindful of colour transfer from dark denim. If lightly wet, blot (don’t rub) with a soft cloth and air-dry away from heat. Store the bag lightly stuffed, upright, in a breathable dust bag, and avoid overfilling to preserve the shape and zip alignment.

Q: Is the Ellipse PM still produced?
A: The classic Monogram Ellipse PM is generally discontinued; availability is best on the pre‑loved market. Details can vary by era, so our listing photos and description show the exact configuration of this vintage piece.

Q: Where are the brand markings and codes located, and what does SP1918 mean?
A: Authentic Louis Vuitton bags have an interior heat‑stamp (e.g., “LOUIS VUITTON Paris” and country of origin). Older pieces typically include a date code on a small leather tab or along an interior seam; more recent releases (around 2021 onward) may use an embedded microchip instead of a visible code. The code “SP1918” typically indicates production in France and, in LV’s 1990–2006 format, points to late‑1990s manufacture. We’re happy to share close‑up photos and help interpret the markings on this exact item.

Q: What accessories are included and how do you authenticate?
A: Everything included is listed under “Accessories.” For this item, we note “no accessories.” If an accessory isn’t mentioned there, it isn’t included—feel free to contact us for confirmation. Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, assessing materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, date code/microchip and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell.

Q: What is the condition of this specific piece?
A: External Condition: Good, with visible patina on the Vachetta leather and scuffing on the piping and corners. Internal Condition: Very Good, with light traces of use. Hardware Condition: Shiny with light scratches, consistent with gentle wear. Our photos show these details clearly—contact us if you’d like additional close‑ups.

Q: Can Louis Vuitton repair or service the Ellipse PM?
A: Louis Vuitton offers repairs subject to assessment and parts availability (e.g., Vachetta trim/handles, some hardware). Policies, costs and lead times vary by region and era. Independent luxury leather specialists can also perform cleaning and restoration. We’re happy to advise on typical options and help you prepare for a boutique assessment.
