Q: Is this Tiffany & Co. Smile Pendant authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it solid gold or plated?
A: This pendant is crafted in solid 18‑carat white gold from Tiffany’s T collection—not plated base metal. Tiffany white gold typically has a fine rhodium finish to achieve its bright, silvery appearance; this can be refreshed during professional servicing over time.

Q: What is the chain length and how will it sit when worn?
A: Our piece measures approximately 47 cm in perimeter (about 18.5 in). On most wearers this sits around the collarbone to high décolletage. Many Tiffany T Smile pendants are supplied on an adjustable 16–18 in chain; please check our photos for any adjustment rings on this specific necklace or contact us and we’ll confirm.

Q: Which size is the “Smile” motif and what are the exact pendant measurements?
A: The Tiffany T Smile comes in Mini, Small and Large. Exact bar span/height can vary by size and production year. If you’d like precise measurements for this piece, message us and we’ll measure the motif and chain for you.

Q: How does it fasten? Is the clasp secure?
A: It features a spring ring clasp closure on a fine chain, as shown in our images. Always ensure the clasp is fully closed before wear; a jeweller can add a safety jump ring or extender on request.

Q: What hallmarks should I expect on an 18‑carat Tiffany pendant?
A: Look for the TIFFANY & CO. maker’s mark and a fineness stamp such as “750” or “Au750” for 18‑carat gold; some pieces also include “T&CO” and a country‑of‑origin stamp. Stamps are typically found on the chain tag and/or the pendant.

Q: Is 18‑carat white gold suitable for sensitive skin? Is it nickel‑free?
A: 18‑carat white gold is generally alloyed with other metals (often palladium; some alloys may include nickel). Many wearers find it comfortable, but if you have known sensitivities, monitor for irritation and keep the area dry; discontinue wear if any reaction occurs.

Q: Can I wear it in the shower, swimming or to the gym? Can I sleep in it?
A: We recommend removing fine jewellery before showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping. Moisture, fragrances and chlorinated or salt water can accelerate wear to the rhodium finish and stress delicate chains and clasps.

Q: How should I clean and care for 18‑carat white gold and the rhodium finish?
A: After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For a deeper clean, use mild soap with lukewarm water, rinse and pat dry. Avoid abrasive polishes, chemical dips and ultrasonic cleaners, which can dull or prematurely wear rhodium. Professional cleaning and occasional rhodium replating keep white gold bright over the years (necklaces generally need this less often than rings).

Q: Can the chain be adjusted or serviced?
A: A competent jeweller can add an extender or extra jump ring to fine‑tune the drop, and can inspect/replace a clasp if ever needed. Tiffany boutiques and authorised jewellers also offer cleaning, polishing and rhodium refresh services—contact us for recommendations.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This necklace is in Very Good Condition with light signs of careful wear possible unless noted otherwise. This listing includes no accessories unless specifically shown or stated. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and return the item in the same condition received.
