Q: Are these Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra Malachite Earrings authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What are they made from?
A: They are crafted in 18k yellow gold set with natural malachite stones in the signature Vintage Alhambra four‑leaf clover motif.

Q: Are they for pierced ears or clip‑on?
A: This pair features a post with a hinged clip (often called an omega/clip back) for secure wear—designed for pierced ears. Some independent jewellers offer conversions for non‑pierced wear; we do not modify items but can suggest reputable specialists on request.

Q: What are the measurements and how will they sit on the ear?
A: Each motif is approximately 1.5 cm high x 1.5 cm wide with a depth of about 1.0 cm. The Vintage Alhambra size offers a classic, elegant presence on the lobe without being oversized. If you would like the exact gram weight or an on‑ear scale photo, contact us and we’ll provide it.

Q: What hallmarks should I expect?
A: Van Cleef & Arpels fine jewellery typically bears a VCA/“Van Cleef & Arpels” signature, a “750” fineness mark for 18k gold and a unique serial number. Placement varies by era and model; our close‑up photos show any stamps present on this pair.

Q: How should I care for malachite and the gold?
A: Keep the earrings dry and away from perfume, lotions, hairspray, hand sanitiser and household cleaners. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners. Wipe gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and store them separately to avoid scratches. Malachite is relatively soft and porous (about 3.5–4 on the Mohs scale), so avoid impact and prolonged moisture.

Q: Can I shower, swim or exercise in them?
A: We recommend removing malachite jewellery before showering, swimming, sauna/steam or sport. Moisture, heat and chemicals can dull the stone and accelerate wear to the finish.

Q: Will the malachite colour and banding match perfectly?
A: Malachite naturally displays unique banding and “eye” patterns; slight variations in tone and pattern between stones are normal and part of its charm. Van Cleef & Arpels pairs stones thoughtfully, but no two are identical.

Q: Are they suitable for sensitive skin?
A: The metal is 18k gold, which is generally well tolerated, though sensitivities vary by individual. The malachite is polished and set; if irritation occurs, discontinue wear and seek professional advice.

Q: Can they be serviced or polished?
A: A competent jeweller can tighten the clip, check the posts and perform gentle gold polishing while protecting the malachite. Brand boutiques may offer service for vintage pieces at their discretion; any modification can affect originality and resale value—please consult us before undertaking work.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included and can I return them?
A: This pair is in Very Good Condition with light signs of careful wear possible unless stated otherwise. This listing includes no accessories unless specifically shown or noted. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please review our Returns information for eligibility and timeframes, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
