Q: Is this Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra Necklace authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What materials is it made from? Is it solid gold?
A: This necklace is crafted from solid 18kt rose gold featuring a single grey Mother of Pearl clover motif. The Vintage Alhambra collection is renowned for its beaded gold borders and natural stone inlays. Because Mother of Pearl is an organic material, slight variations in colour and iridescence are natural and unique to each piece.

Q: What are the measurements and how does it sit?
A: The chain has a listed perimeter of approximately 41 cm, which typically sits at the collarbone or high on the chest. The clover pendant measures approximately 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm, which corresponds to the classic "Vintage" size (larger than the "Sweet" size).

Q: Can the chain be resized or adjusted?
A: The necklace length is generally fixed, although Van Cleef & Arpels boutiques or competent jewellers can often add or remove links to adjust the fit. We do not offer in‑house modifications. Please note that third‑party alterations may affect the item's originality and resale value.

Q: How does the clasp work?
A: It secures with a classic lobster clasp closure, designed to be both durable and easy to operate. Please check the close‑up photos to view the condition of the clasp and hardware.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect?
A: Authentic VCA pieces typically bear the brand signature (Van Cleef & Arpels or VCA), the metal purity mark (Au750 for 18k gold), a unique serial number, and a "Made in France" stamp. The hallmarks can be found on the metal plaque near the clasp or on the edge of the pendant. Our listing photos show the specific stamps on this item.

Q: How should I care for Grey Mother of Pearl and Rose Gold?
A: Mother of Pearl is soft and sensitive to moisture and chemicals. Avoid wearing the necklace in water (showering/swimming) and apply perfumes or lotions before putting jewelry on. Moisture can damage the nacre or cause the inlay to shrink. clean the gold gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and store the piece separately to avoid scratches.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This necklace is in Very Good Condition with signs of wear consistent with careful use. This listing includes no accessories; it comes as the necklace only. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
